I am currently employed as the Custom Publishing Assistant Editor at Seven West Media, which comprises several mastheads, including The West Australian, The Sunday Times, PerthNow and various regional newspapers. It is a statewide media company with several digital and print platforms based in Western Australia.
In my role, I manage a team of 10 writers, as well as three designers and a subeditor. I have been in the field for 10 years, with my main experience being in editing. I began my career as a subeditor in and journalist, before moving to an Assistant Editor position, which I have held for two years.
In regard to my editing skills, I have extremely high attention to detail and I am meticulous in my work. Having been in editing positions for much of my career, proofreading, spotting errors and ensuring copy is clean and concise is second nature to me. I currently also work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, where no two days are the same, which I handle with ease.
In addition to this role, I am also the content manager of Outdoor Explorer! in The Sunday Times, which is a weekly travel feature within the newspaper highlighting destinations and activities in Western Australia to encourage locals and visitors alike to get out and explore the state. I frequently work with Western Australian tourism organisations, as well as local governments, tourism operators, small businesses and visitor centres, to write stories showcasing Western Australia’s sought-after destinations and hidden gems. In this position, I source and allocate stories to the writers on my team, and I also write editorial content for both advertisers and non-advertisers within the feature to promote the state and all it has to offer.
I am also the content manager of Workplace Conversations That Matter for the Australian Institute of Management Western Australia, which is a digital platform with long-form stories targeted towards the corporate C-Suite audience on topics related to business and management. In this role, I help writers develop their pitches and work closely with the institute to deliver on quality, timely stories. I also edit the articles to ensure they are up to standard and provide feedback where necessary to help the team improve on their writing.
Aside from this, I work across a range of topics, including tourism and travel, real estate, new homes, business, health and wellness, education, hospitality and more.
Being in a leadership position as an Assistant Editor, I am able to work independently and also very well with a team. I am a hard-working, driven individual who thrives under pressure and is able to deliver on any task given.
I have also previously worked in Laos as a subeditor, which has proven that I am able to hit the ground running in a foreign country and adapt to my surroundings effortlessly.
