About Company

Beihang University was founded on October 25, 1952 under the name of Beijing Institute of Aeronautics, originating from the merger of the aeronautical departments of Beijing Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University, and Sichuan University. In 1988, it was renamed Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA). In 2022, the university changed its English name to Beihang University.

Affiliated to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Beihang University is the first university specializing in aeronautics and astronautics in New China. Located in Beijing, Beihang University boasts Xueyuan Road Campus and Shahe Campus, covering an area of more than 3,000 mu with a total construction area of more than 1.7 million square meters. Since its founding, Beihang has excelled as one of the first 16 national key universities, one of the first 22 universities to set up graduate schools after the restoration of the degree system in 1980s, and has been included in Project 211, Project 985, and Double First-Class University Plan. The aim of Beihang is to build a world-class university that is deeply rooted in China.

Beihang covers 11 discipline categories, including engineering, science, management, liberal arts, law, economy, philosophy, education, medicine, arts, and interdiscipline. Among all disciplines are 8 First-Class disciplines, 14 A-level disciplines, and 4 A+ level disciplines, including Aeronautic and Astronautic Science and Technology, Instruments Science and Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, and Software Engineering. Based on its various disciplines, the university provides 82 undergraduate programs and authorizes 30 kinds of doctoral degrees as well as 40 kinds of Master’s degrees. It is also home to 23 post-doctoral research centers. Centering on the national strategic needs and international academic frontier, the university applies different schemes for its engineering, science, liberal arts and interdisciplinary medicine and engineering to provide them scope to develop. Advantages in aerospace and information technology have been formed and the disciplines pertaining to national defense have reached top-class level in China.

The university has a total of 4,627 faculty and staff members, of whom 2,921 are full-time. 78.5% of full-time faculties have senior professional titles and 85.58% have doctorates. 379 faculties are selected into various national major talent projects, including 31 academicians of either the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 127 members of “Leading Program”, and 221 members of “Young Talent Program”. Beihang also has 45 state-level innovation teams. Numerous national first-prize winners, field experts and chief designers have emerged in the talent team, as well as a large number of young, promising and accomplished experts and scholars.

Beihang now has a total enrollment of over 37,000 full-time students, including about 1,200 international students. The numbers of undergraduates and postgraduates are nearly the same. The overall quality of students in science and technology ranks the 9th in China. In the new era, aiming at training leading talent who serve the needs of the country and navigate social development, Beihang strengthens efforts to cultivate talent with the university’s characteristics, and to inherit the spirit of “serving the country in the fields of aeronautics and astronautics” and patriotic feelings. The university encourages its students to enhance their knowledge, shoulder responsibilities and pursue perfection, works to transform research advantages into talent advantages and further supports self-reliance in high-level science and technology and in high-level talent training. Adhering to meeting the national strategic needs, Beihang innovates and reforms mechanism for postgraduate education based on the international academic frontier. It implements programs including bringing together outstanding students, building quality course systems, deepening international exchanges, etc., and strives to train innovative, capable, and high-level talent. Joint-training model tailored for high-level talent, such as Class for Senior Personnel in Large Aircraft, Aero-Engine Class and Information Security Class, has been introduced.
