Introduction to Chengdu University of Technology

Chengdu University of Technology (成都理工大学, website) was founded on March 15, 1956, and was approved by the State Council. On March 27, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Geology issued a joint document based on the engineering sections of the Department of Geology, Chongqing University, Northwest University, and Nanjing University. At the same time, some cadres and teachers from Beijing Institute of Geology and Northeast Institute of Geology were selected to form the Metropolitan Institute of Geological Exploration, and undergraduate students were recruited from the same year. After the establishment of the school, the former Beijing Petroleum Geological Institute petroleum department, the second department part, and the third department as a whole, successively moved into the organizational system. Chengdu College of Geology and Exploration was renamed Chengdu College of Geology in 1958. In 1960, the school began to recruit graduate students. In 1981, the school became one of the first universities to obtain the right to confer a master’s degree after the national degree system was restored. Chengdu College of Geology was renamed Chengdu Institute of Technology in 1993. In 2001, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to form Chengdu University of Science and Technology (merged with Sichuan Commercial College and Nonferrous Metal Geological Workers College). The school is under the direct control of the Ministry of Geology, the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, and the Ministry of Land and Resources. It was transferred to the locality in 2000 and has become a provincial key university co-constructed by the central and local governments under the management of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government. On November 3, 2010, the Ministry of Land and Resources and the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government signed an agreement to jointly establish a polytechnic university. In September 2017, the school entered the ranks of national first-class discipline construction universities.
