East China University of Political Science and Law (华东政法大学, website) is the first batch of higher political and legal colleges founded by New China. In June 1952, with the approval of the East China Military and Political Committee, the law departments of 9 colleges including St. John’s University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Soochow University, Xiamen University, Hujiang University, Anhui University, Shanghai College, Aurora University, etc. The Department of Politics and the Department of Society merged to form the East China University of Political Science and Law at the former site of St. John’s University. In March 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed East China University of Political Science and Law. The school is a university managed by Shanghai.
