The school’s predecessor was the “South China People’s Academy of Literature and Art” founded by Marshal Ye Jianying in March 1950, and its name was inscribed by Chairman Mao Zedong. In 1985, the school was renamed “South China Literary and Amateur University”, and the principal was du Ai, Deputy Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial Federation of Liberal Arts. Liu Tianfu and Ouyang Shan were honorary presidents. In 1995, with the approval of the Provincial People’s Government, the school was renamed “South China Literary Adult College”.
