Guangdong Women’s Polytechnic College (广东女子职业技术学院, website) is the only public women’s college in South China established with the approval of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government. The school has a history of nearly 40 years. Its predecessors were the Guangdong Women’s Cadre School founded by the Guangdong Women’s Federation in 1981 and the Guangdong Women’s Secondary Professional School established in 1992. It was upgraded to Guangdong Women’s Vocational and Technical College in 2001. In November 2013, the school was identified as a provincial model vocational college construction unit. In December 2015, the school was identified as a model school for governing schools according to law in Guangdong Province. In 2016, the school was rated as the third batch of Guangdong province students’ innovation and entrepreneurship education demonstration schools and the second batch of vocational college digital campus construction experimental schools in China. In 2017, the school was identified as the cultural quality education construction base of higher vocational colleges in Guangdong Province. In 2018, the school was named the 2015-2017 Guangdong Safe and Civilized Campus.
The main campus of Guangdong Women’s Polytechnic College is located in Panyu District, Guangzhou, adjacent to Guangzhou Asian Games City. There are 136 on-campus training rooms, 17 training bases, 209 off-campus practice training bases, and more than 500,000 books in the library. The school currently has about 7,000 students. It has five full-time secondary colleges, including the School of Applied Design, the School of Management, the School of Economics and Trade, the School of Culture and the Arts, and the School of Applied Foreign Languages (International Exchange School). The Ministry of Education, the School of Continuing Education, the School of Entrepreneurship, and three educational research centers (institute) have established nearly 30 majors.
Guangdong Women’s Polytechnic College has a team of teachers with professional, academic qualifications, professional titles, reasonable age structure, and strong teaching and research capabilities. There are more than 400 faculty members, including 247 full-time teachers; 3 national and provincial industry masters are hired, and 36 part-time teachers in provincial high-level skill-based enterprises are hired. Among the full-time teachers in the school, 83% have dual-qualified teachers, 39.27% have senior titles, and 75.3% have obtained master’s degrees or higher. Each major has a group of young and strong teaching backbones and academic leaders, and experts outside the school, entrepreneurs and professionals with rich practical experience in the industry are appointed as members of the professional steering committee. In December 2012, the school united nearly a hundred government agencies, industries, enterprises, research institutes, social organizations, institutions of higher learning, and vocational schools to lead the creation of China’s first female vocational education group, Guangdong Women’s Vocational Education Group, and formed The school-run system and operation mechanism of multi-party interaction among government, government, schools, and enterprises have been established. In March 2016, the school took the lead in establishing the Guangdong Sanya Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance, and planned to build the school’s Haizhu Campus into a provincial-level and characteristic “entrepreneurial incubation base”. The school has also established friendly and cooperative relations with universities and women’s organizations in Hong Kong and Macao, as well as Japan, the United States, Germany, and Australia. It has also organized undergraduate classes in cooperation with several well-known universities in Guangdong Province.
Guangdong Women’s Polytechnic College aims to cultivate innovative female technical and technical talents with noble morality, elegance and high-tech skills. It takes advantage of its gender advantages, creates a women’s school brand, and forms women’s higher professional education. Training, women’s innovation and entrepreneurship education, and a multi-form school structure that serves women’s lifelong education. Graduates are favored by employers, and the employment rate has remained above 98% over the years. Independent surveys by third-party institutions show that graduates’ satisfaction with their alma mater is over 98%, which is much higher than the national average of similar institutions.
Since the establishment of the school, the school has made active contributions in developing women’s potential, promoting women’s employment, exploring women’s characteristic education, and promoting the harmonious development of men and women. It has successively won “Guangdong Provincial Civilized Unit”, “Civilized Campus”, and “Ten consecutive ten Civilized Unit of the Year “and other glorious titles. Leaders of all levels have shown cordial care to women’s colleges. Zhang Dejiang, Wang Yang, Chen Muhua, Peng Yiyun, Gu Xiulian and other party and state leaders, Zhu Xiaodan, Lu Ruihua, Zhang Yiying, Li Hongzhong, Liu Yupu, Lin Shaochun, Wen Lanzi, Lei Yulan and other provincial leaders have visited here many times.
