Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (广州中医药大学, website) was founded in 1956. The foundation of the school was the Guangdong College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was established in 1924. It is one of the first four Chinese medicine colleges and universities established in New China. Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine has been cooperating with Southeast Asian countries and African countries in antimalarial research. The new compound dihydroartemisinin and piperazine developed by our school was included in the 2010 edition (second edition) and 2015 edition (third edition) of the Malaria Treatment Guide by the World Health Organization (WHO). The fourth-generation artemisinin-based compound antimalarial drug with independent intellectual property rights developed by Professor Li Guoqiao’s team was listed as a key project for the construction of a strong province of traditional Chinese medicine in Guangdong Province and a key foreign cooperation project of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. “National Ceremony” was given to many African countries. The fourth-generation artemisinin compound has obtained international patent protection in 38 countries including the United States, registered trademarks in 32 countries, and went on sale in 24 malaria-endemic countries. The scientific research team of Professor Song Jianping of our school cooperated in the Comoros to implement the Artemisinin Compound Rapid Malaria Elimination Project, which effectively curbed the local malaria epidemic, achieved the first zero malaria death in the country’s history, and received widespread attention from the international community. In 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) incorporated the compound artemisinin’s innovative drug administration plan of our school’s artemisia antimalarial team to eliminate the source of infection into the “Personal Medicine for Malaria-Field Implementation Manual”, contributing to the global acceleration of malaria control TCM wisdom.

Based on its own advantages, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine actively participates in the construction of a strong province of Chinese medicine. There are 6 directly affiliated hospitals (including 2 co-established with the government) and 30 non-directly affiliated hospitals.
