Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), headquartered in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, ranked among the national “Double First Class”, “985 Project”, “211 Project “It is also a founding member of the Nine Universities Alliance, Pacific Rim University Alliance, China University Presidents Association, Alliance of Universities of Excellence, Global Energy Internet University Alliance, China-Russia Engineering University Alliance, China-Spain University Alliance, China Artificial Intelligence Education Joint Association, National Higher Military Industry Colleges and Universities. The university was founded in 1920 as Harbin Sino-Russian Industrial School, and then went through the period of Sino-Russian Industrial School and Industrial School of East Province Special Zone, and was officially named as Harbin Institute of Technology in 1928. In 1999, it was identified as one of the first nine universities to be built under the “985 Project”, and in 2000, it merged with Harbin University of Architecture to form the new Harbin Institute of Technology.
As of May 2022, the university has three campuses in Harbin, Weihai and Shenzhen, with a campus area of 5,654,200 square meters and a building area of 3,550,800 square meters; 22 colleges, 107 undergraduate majors; 4,110 full-time teachers and 55,901 students.
