Jianghan University (JHUN) is a public multidisciplinary university in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province. It is co-built by the municipal and provincial governments, but mainly endorsed by the former. At the approval of Ministry of Education, four universities and colleges—the old Jianghan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology Hankou Branch, Wuhan University of Education, and Wuhan Medical College for Workers merged to form Jianghan University in October 2001. In June 2002, the school moved as a whole to the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) .
In 2018, JHUN was selected into the provincial list of “Double First-Class Initiative”, and its chemical engineering and technology discipline would participate in the country’s construction plan of first-class academic disciplines. In 2019, Xie Xianqi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, joined the faculty of JHUN, availing it to be the first university with a full-time academician among Hubei province-owned universities. JHUN’s Material Forming and Control Engineering was selected into the list of national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and other 17 undergraduate majors into the list of provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, both released by the Ministry of Education.
