Jiangsu Second Normal University (江苏第二师范学院, website) is a provincial general undergraduate school that features teacher education and focuses on training primary and pre-school teachers. The school’s predecessor, Jiangsu College of Education, was founded in 1952, and is one of the 17 publicly-run undergraduate schools established earlier in Jiangsu Province in the early days of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The school started undergraduate education in 1959. It was suspended during the Cultural Revolution, resumed in 1978, and resumed undergraduate education in 1996. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2013, the school was converted into a provincial undergraduate school and renamed Jiangsu Second Normal University. For more than 60 years, the school has always adhered to the orientation of serving Jiangsu’s basic education, and has gradually formed a school running characteristic of “pre-service and post-service integration, education and scientific research leadership, and clear practice orientation”.

Jiangsu Second Normal University currently has two campuses, Shidai and Caochangmen, covering an area of nearly 1,340 acres. It has 14 secondary colleges, 32 undergraduate majors, and 3 joint master’s programs in education, covering 9 major disciplines. Jiangsu Second Normal University is a national outstanding teacher training plan reform project undertaken by universities, national primary and secondary school backbone teachers and backbone principal training bases, primary and secondary school principal flight training bases of the Ministry of Education, and the only teacher education reform experimental base in Jiangsu province. Teacher training centers in Jiangsu Province, training centers for education administrators, and guidance centers for teacher qualification certification are all institutions established in schools, forming a comprehensive education service system for teachers with basic functions.

Jiangsu Second Normal University has 7 first-class majors in Jiangsu Province, 10 brand majors, key majors, and specialty majors, and 3 Jiangsu Province experimental teaching and practical education demonstration centers. There are 9 excellent courses in Jiangsu Province and 8 online open courses. 11 textbooks have been rated as key teaching materials in Jiangsu Province. Jiangsu Second Normal University attaches importance to international exchanges and cooperation.
