Jiangxi Agricultural University (JXAU), located in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, is a national key university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province.
Jiangxi Agricultural University is a high level agricultural university with the advantages of agriculture, featuring biotechnology and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The university is the first university in Jiangxi province to carry out postgraduate education, with the right to confer doctoral degrees, and is one of the first units in China with the right to confer bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
The university originated from the Jiangxi Industrial College founded in 1905 and renamed as Jiangxi Higher Agricultural College in 1908. Undergraduate education began in 1940 with the founding of the National Zhongzheng University, renamed Nanchang University in 1949, and in 1952 with the founding of Jiangxi Agricultural College; in 1958 with the founding of the Jiangxi Communist Labor University Main Campus, renamed Jiangxi Communist Labor University in 1968; and in 1969 with the merger of Jiangxi Agricultural College and Jiangxi Communist Labor University, renamed Jiangxi Agricultural University in November 1980.
As of October 2022, the university covers a total land area of 16,000 mu; has 17 colleges, offering 59 undergraduate majors; has 5 post-doctoral research stations and post-doctoral research workstations, 6 first-level discipline doctoral points, 21 first-level discipline master’s points, and 9 professional degree authorization points; has 1,859 working faculty and staff, and 24,988 full-time students.
