Introduction to Kaili University

Kaili University (凯里学院) originated from Qiandongnan University, which was established in 1958. After undergoing name change and merger with the Qiandongnan National Teachers College, it was upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college in 2006 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is currently the only undergraduate college in the Qiandongnan autonomous prefecture.

Kaili University covers an area of 1676 acres, and the building area of the school is 325,000 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 129.7 million yuan. The collection of paper books is 113,500 and the electronic books are 4.36 million.

There are 914 faculty members, of which 668 are full-time teachers; 121 have high professional titles and 114 have doctoral degrees. The university has 50 undergraduate majors, 43 enrollment majors in 2018, 36 bachelors degree-authorized majors, 1 national major comprehensive reform pilot major, and 1 “first-class major” key construction project (cultivation) major in Guizhou Province, 8 provincial-level comprehensive reform pilot programs, 2 provincial-level specialty programs, and 3 provincial-level talents education and training programs. There are 1 regional first-class construction and cultivation disciplines in Guizhou Province, and 8 provincial key (supporting) disciplines. In addition, there is a key research base of Qiandongnan Studies and a state-level think tank for “Southeast Guizhou Development Research”.

Kaili University has more than 20 industry-university-research cooperation projects with Qiandongnan Prefecture. It has established industry-education integration projects and collaborative education with well-known companies such as Zhongke Shuguang, Phoenix Education Group, Zhongke Hantianxia, Yuantong Technology and other well-known enterprises. Project with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, co-constructed the academician workstation project, with Hangzhou Normal University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Tongji University, Beijing Jianzhu University, Southwest University for Nationalities, Jinan University and other domestic universities and Taiwan Universal of Science and Technology, Daye University.

The university has established undergraduate exchange programs, international student programs and summer camp programs with foreign universities such as Pace University in the United States and Sunan Larry University of Technology in Thailand.

School of Foreign Languages

The School of Foreign Languages have two majors: English major and translation major. The Department of Public Foreign Language Teaching and Research undertakes the teaching tasks of college English and college Japanese. There are 7 teaching and research offices: English professional teaching and research office, translation teaching and research office, university English teaching and research office (1), university English teaching and research office (2), university Japanese teaching and research office, practical training teaching and research office, foreign language classroom.

There are 383 students in our college, and the employment rate of students in the past three years has been above 95%. There are 55 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 8 professors, 36 associate professors, and 80% of associate professor titles or above; 6 doctors (2 students), 41 masters, and 85% of teachers with master’s degree or above. There are also 2 foreign (American) teachers. The average age of full-time teachers is 39 years old, 37 teachers are under 40 years old, accounting for 67%. They have graduated from foreign universities such as Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan (over 30% of teachers with foreign study experience), and some graduated from Doctoral and postgraduate students of well-known domestic universities such as Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Normal University and Sichuan Foreign Studies University.

The English language and literature of our college is a key subject at the school level. The English major is the provincial comprehensive reform pilot major and the “double first-class” project construction in the school. The college English teaching team is the “double first-class” project construction team in the school. The college English course is on-campus “Double first-class” project construction course.

In order to expand foreign exchanges, our school insists on opening schools, and has established more than 10 educational practice bases in Qiandongnan Prefecture and counties and cities. It has also established good academic exchanges and cooperative relations with some universities at home and abroad, including Jinan University, Hangzhou Normal University Well-known domestic universities including universities, as well as foreign universities such as Pace University in the United States, Jingjin Language Institute in Japan, Fukuyama University and Hiroshima University, and Suranari University of Technology in Thailand. In recent years, more than 50 students have exchanged and studied in foreign universities.
