Introduction to Luliang University
Luliang University (吕梁学院, website) is located in downtown Luliang. Founded in 1978, the university was originally called the Luliang College of Shanxi Normal University. In 1984, the Luliang Teachers College was established. In 1989, it was merged with the Luliang College of Science and Technology under construction to form the Luliang College. In 2001, the school and Taiyuan Teachers College jointly run the school and began to train undergraduate students, accumulating valuable experience for the school’s upgrade and general undergraduate education.
In March 2010, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Luliang College was upgraded to a regular undergraduate college. The promotion of the university has raised the level of school running, expanded the school running space, and made the school jump to a brand new platform, becoming an important milestone in the school’s development history.
Luliang University covers an area of 11.106 million square meters, with a construction area of 646,400 square meters, of which the total area of teaching and administrative buildings is 278,300 square meters. The total area of sports venues is 136,600 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 1.914 billion yuan, of which the total value of instruments and equipment is 186 million yuan. It has a collection of 1.215 million paper books, 2.485 million electronic books, 1,083 paper journals, and 9,100 electronic journals.
Luliang University has 15 teaching departments (departments), a comprehensive internship training base (Jiaokou Branch), and 2 teacher colleges. There are 44 undergraduate majors covering 9 university disciplines including literature, science, engineering, law, agriculture, management, education, history, and art. Luliang University currently has 1,124 faculty members and 852 full-time teachers, including 206 teachers with senior titles and 683 teachers with master’s degrees or above. Luliang University has signed a joint training agreement with Shanxi University and North University for professional degree masters. The joint training with Master University for North China University started enrollment in 2018, and there are currently 16 master supervisors.
Luliang University joined the Alliance of Applied Technology Universities in 2015, and was listed by the Provincial Department of Education as an alternate candidate university for application in 2016. In 2017, it became the first batch of pilot universities in the Ministry of Education’s “Scientific Work Capability Enhancement Program (10 Million Project)” The province’s first provincial and municipal co-established university, was named the National Advanced School of Civilized Campus Construction in 2018. In 2019, it was approved by the Shanxi Provincial Degree Committee to become a master’s degree granting project construction institution.
