Introduction to Nanning University

Nanning University (南宁学院, website)’s predecessor was Lujiang University, founded by the Kuomintang Revolutionary Committee and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee in 1985. In 2009, Nanning Weining Group participated in running schools in the form of a joint-stock system and became co-sponsors. The school currently has 12 secondary colleges and 27 undergraduate majors, covering 4 university disciplines including engineering, management, arts, and economics. Nanning University adheres to the direction of running a socialist school, adheres to the principle of non-profit school running, and adheres to the local and application-oriented school running orientation. Nanning University has a beautiful campus, and the national AAA-level scenic spot “Bugu Lake” is located on the campus. The campus covers an area of 846,500 square meters, the building area of the school building is 430,200 square meters, and the area of teaching and administrative buildings is 209,900 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 144 million yuan, and the intelligent transportation training room and VBSE cross-professional comprehensive practice are built. There are 196 experimental training rooms including training rooms. There are high-end collaborative education platforms such as the Ministry of Education-ZTE’s ICT production and education integration innovation base, the former AQSIQ China Quality Research and Education (Nanning) base, and 120 off-campus internship bases. The library has a building area of 25,804 square meters, a collection of 1,293,900 paper books, 986,600 electronic books, and 22 databases.

Nanning University currently has 516 full-time teachers and 348 external teachers, equivalent to 759.5 full-time teachers, with a student-teacher ratio of 18.88: 1. Among its own full-time teachers, 209 have senior professional titles, accounting for 40.5%; 322 teachers have master’s and doctoral degrees, accounting for 62.4%; and 175 dual-teacher and dual-energy teachers, accounting for 33.91%. Among the teachers are well-known experts and scholars and industry backbones such as national outstanding teachers, autonomous region-level teaching teachers, doctoral tutors, art masters, and enterprise technical experts.

Nanning University promotes the transformation of the school-running concept to the application type, and has assembled and published six collections of teaching reform research papers such as “New Experiences in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education”, “New Experiences in the Integration of Production and Education, Innovation Development”, “New Experiences in the Construction of Applied Courses” ——Explore the Construction of New Type Applied Technology University, a monograph. Nanning University has won 28 scientific research awards at or above the city hall level. It has published 651 papers and 11 books. Teachers and students have applied for a total of 827 patents and 159 patents. In 2017, the total number of patent applications of the university ranked 11th in the district’s universities, and the number of invention patent applications ranked 7th. The school won the title of “Nanning Outstanding Patent Work Unit”. In the ranking of China’s private undergraduate colleges and universities in 2018, Nanning College ranked 46th among 152 private undergraduate colleges and universities in China.

Nanning University regards ASEAN countries and surrounding areas as the focus of exchanges and cooperation, and has established cooperation and exchange platforms such as the China-ASEAN Quality Research and Education Center and the Nanning (ASEAN) International Science and Technology Cooperation Demonstration Base for Rail Transit. Up to now, the school has provided training for urban rail transit teachers to 18 institutions in Thailand, received 53 educational missions from Thailand, Malaysia and other countries and regions, and established 43 cooperative colleges. The “China-ASEAN Integrated Transportation International Joint Laboratory” project, led by the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and led by Nanning College, has been co-constructed by famous universities and enterprises.

The initial employment rates of Nanning University undergraduates in 2017, 2018, and 2019 were 95.29%, 94.83%, and 90.72%, respectively, which are higher than the average level of Guangxi universities in the same period. The school organized students to participate in China’s “Internet +” university student innovation and entrepreneurship competition. In the fifth session, it won 6 national bronze awards, 18 autonomous regions gold awards, 18 silver awards, and 86 bronze awards. The school organized a total of 560 national, provincial and ministerial awards for students to participate in subject competitions, innovative activity skills competitions and literary sports competitions. In the evaluation of innovative talents training and subject competition in Chinese universities from 2014 to 2018, it ranked 18th in private and independent colleges and 1st in Guangxi.

Nanning University’s reform and development has received the attention and encouragement of superior leaders, peers and society. Leaders such as Wan Exiang, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and Lin Zhiqing, then Deputy Minister of Education, and Li Xiaohong, as well as well-known Chinese educator Pan Maoyuan, have visited the school to conduct research and guidance. Since 2014, the school has been invited to share the application technology university construction experience on various platforms in the country, the autonomous region and abroad, and 134 universities in and outside the region have visited the school to conduct exchanges on the application-oriented university construction; Xinhua News Agency, China Education News “Guangxi Daily” and Guangxi Radio and Television Station and other mainstream media have repeatedly reported on the school’s school running philosophy and school running characteristics. In 2016, the school won the “Guangxi May 1st Labor Award”.
