Shanghai American School, or SAS for short, is the largest international school in Shanghai, founded by the U.S. Consulate in 1912, discontinued in 1949, and reopened in 1980. The Shanghai American School has two campuses in Pudong and Puxi. The school has over 4,000 students from 44 countries and regions, including kindergarten and elementary school, middle school and high school.
SAS is one of the largest and most prestigious international schools in China and Asia, offering a challenging academic program that helps its graduates gain admission to top universities around the world. The school offers a full IB curriculum and was the first school in Asia to offer the AP Capstone Diploma. Students from over 45 countries and regions have access to over 100 activities, clubs and sports teams. SAS is a private, not-for-profit school, with all revenues invested in school improvement and development, and many of the facilities on its campus are university-level.
