Introduction to Shantou Polytechnic
Shantou Polytechnic (汕头职业技术学院, website) is a municipal full-time comprehensive college. It was established in March 2002. It currently has four campuses: the College Headquarters, Jinyuan Campus, Xinjin Campus, and Dongdun Campus. It covers an area of 1011.14 mu (including 450 ). The construction area is 261,000 square meters. In June 2019, there were 10,795 full-time students, including 9,932 college students and 863 secondary vocational students; and 1,500 college students with adult education.
Shantou Polytechnic has a long history of running schools. The college was formed by the merger of 6 schools including the former Shantou Institute of Education, and its history can be traced back to several famous schools run by the Guangdong East Administrative Region, Shantou Special Zone, and Shantou Region in the last century.Among them, the Shantou Preschool Normal School was founded in 1956. Teacher training school was founded in 1960, Shantou Business School was founded in 1964, Shantou Supply and Marketing School was founded in 1976, Shantou Mechanical and Electrical School was founded in 1976, Shantou Education College of Guangdong Province was founded in 1982, and it is now in Huizhou and Meizhou , Chaozhou, Jieyang, Shanwei and Shantou have some influence.
The college integrates liberal arts, science, engineering, economic management and normal education, and has 8 departments: computer department, mechanical and electrical engineering department, economic management department, foreign language department, arts and sports department, humanities and social science department, natural science department, and preschool education department. 52 junior college majors (including directions) and several secondary vocational majors.
Shantou Polytechnic has 802 staff members and 741 staff members, including 493 full-time teachers, 320 teachers with doctoral and master’s degrees, 25% of teachers with advanced professional titles, and more than 60% of teachers with dual Teacher qualifications. At the same time, the college also hires a large number of experts and senior engineers with practical experience as part-time teachers.
Shantou Polytechnic will enroll students in Guangdong, Guangxi, Tibet, Yunnan, Shanxi, Xinjiang, and Anhui provinces in 2019, and plans to recruit 6,000 students. 3883 people have been admitted through various forms. The general college entrance examination is planned to enroll 1965 (225 outside the province). In the past 17 years, more than 60,000 students have graduated. The employment rate of graduates in the past three years has reached more than 97%, and user satisfaction has exceeded 97%.
The college’s full-time professional setup is linked to the advantageous industries of Shantou, and extensive school-enterprise cooperation has been established. 123 off-campus training bases have been established in Shantou. In the past three years, more than two thirds of Shantou graduates have stayed in Shantou, with about 600 people each year; non-Shantou graduates have stayed in Shantou, with about 300 people each year; there are about 900 people, more than Shantou students.
