Introduction to Shanxi Datong University

Shanxi Datong University (山西大同大学, website) is a provincial full-time multi-disciplinary university whose history dates back to the 1950s. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2003, it consists of the merger of Yanbei Normal University, Datong Medical College, Datong Vocational and Technical College, and Shanxi Industrial Vocational and Technical College. The school is currently the only provincial government co-constructed university in Shanxi Province. It is a master’s degree awarding unit authorized by the State Council ’s degree committee. It is the National Alliance of Applied Technology Universities, the China Education Think Tank Alliance, the Shanxi Teacher Education Alliance, the Shanxi Higher Medical Education Resources Alliance, and The main members of the “U Dazhang” university education alliance are the school planning and construction development center of the Ministry of Education, and the Phoenix Education “University Digital Media Production and Education Integrative Innovation Application Demonstration Base” project cooperative college. It is the first batch of application-oriented transformation pilot universities in Shanxi Province. .

Shanxi Datong University is located in the historical and cultural city of Datong. It consists of the Yudong Campus and the Xinpingwang Campus. There are 27,506 full-time students and 16,572 continuing education students. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 440 million yuan. The library has 2.58 million books and 7.98 million electronic books. It has 23 colleges, 3 affiliated hospitals and 4 non-affiliated hospitals. There are currently 65 undergraduate majors (including 3 majors), covering 11 disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, history, agriculture, science, engineering, medicine, management, and art. The school insists on establishing a school based on quality and running schools with special characteristics, based on locality, radiates surroundings, faces the whole country, and serves the society. More than 200,000 outstanding talents have been cultivated for local industries, and have been well received by employers and society. In Shanghai Softtech’s “2016 China’s Best University Rankings”, our university ranked 222th in the country’s universities, ranked 7th in the universities in Shanxi Province, and ranked No. 6 in the comprehensive strength of our university in the 2018 Wushulian National University Ranking Bit.

Shanxi Datong University has 3 national specialty specialties, 5 provincial key construction disciplines and key support disciplines, 3 provincial brand specialty, 4 provincial specialty specialty, 2 provincial advantage specialty, and 1 provincial service. Special specialties in the transformation comprehensive reform pilot area. There are 2 academician workstations, 2 provincial key laboratories, 2 provincial science and technology innovation teams, 1 provincial engineering technology center, 7 provincial demonstration experimental centers (labs), and 1 provincial humanities and social sciences. Research on key research bases, 1 provincial and ministerial co-established college, 6 departments and municipal co-constructed colleges, 4 municipal co-constructed key laboratories, 3 municipal co-constructed engineering technology centers, and 8 municipal co-constructed key laboratories Center. In the construction of the “1331 Project” in the province, our university has been approved a total of 1 provincial-level specialty disciplines, 1 provincial engineering technology research center, 1 key innovation team, 1 provincial collaborative innovation center, 1 provincial key Laboratory and 1 research center for achievement transformation engineering. The school has become the first batch of pilot universities in the country for outstanding doctor education training programs, the first batch of grass-roots legislative contact points of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress, and the city’s local legislative research and consulting base.

Shanxi Datong University currently has 2,180 faculty and staff, including 1512 full-time teachers, 737 teachers with senior titles, 345 doctors and 1,209 masters. The school has introduced one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, four scholars from the Yangtze River and the National Jieqing, and ten specially invited professors. There are experts who enjoy special allowances from the State Council, national “tens of millions of talents”, “New Century Excellent Talents Support Plan” of the Ministry of Education, provincial teaching masters, provincial discipline leaders, provincial “333 talents”, and provincial “131 talents” 143 provincial-level academic and technical leaders, Shanxi Province’s “Hundred Talents Plan” and Shanxi Province “Three Jin Talents” and other senior talents of 143 types.

Shanxi Datong University cooperates with 6 universities including Tianjin University, East China Normal University, University of International Business and Economics, Beijing University of Sport, Beijing University of Technology, Sichuan University of Foreign Studies, and other universities to develop “2 + 2” joint training. Established a comprehensive strategic cooperative relationship with the People’s Government of Datong City District, the People’s Government of Yanggao County, and the People’s Government of Lingqiu County. In 2017, the school and Taiyuan University of Technology initiated the establishment of the Datong Quanke New Energy Industry Technology Research Institute; in 2018, Peking University and the People’s Government of Datong City have jointly established the Datong Base of the Institute of New Structural Economics of Peking University. Established multi-level cooperation relationships with large key enterprises such as Tongmei Group, Daya Group, Tongyao Group, CapitaLand Group, etc., and jointly built a number of technology innovation platforms combining production, teaching and research. Significant breakthroughs have been made in scientific research projects, authorized patents, treatises, and achievement awards. In the past five years, it has undertaken 28 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 12 projects of the National Social Science Foundation, and 19 projects of the Ministries and Commissions. It has won 42 scientific research achievements above provincial and ministerial level, and 613 papers have been included in SCI and EI. At the same time, it has established friendship with the University of Pepertan, Blumsburg University, Bailey College, Burton University, St. Petersburg State University, Amur University, Dongkuk University, Thatch University, and Kyoto Women’s University in Japan. The cooperative relationship, the popularity and influence of the school have been continuously improved. In the “2017 Chinese Colleges and Universities Social Impact Ranking” released by People’s Daily, our alumni ranked 8th.
