Shanxi Medical University (山西医科大学, website)’s predecessor was the Shanxi Medical Training Institute. It was founded in 1919 in the ancient city and prefecture. In 1932 it was changed to a private Shanxi Medical College. In 1940 it was renamed the Medical Specialty of Shanxi University. In 1946 it was upgraded to the Medical College of National Shanxi University. After the founding of New China, the school has entered a new period of development. The school was founded in 1953 and was renamed Shanxi Medical College. In 1996 it was renamed Shanxi Medical University.
