Introduction to Shanxi University
Shanxi University (山西大学, website) is located in Taiyuan, the capital of the Shanxi Province, a cultural capital with a history of more than 2500 years. The school was formerly known as Shanxi University Hall, founded in 1902. Its distant context can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty Sanli Academy and the Qing Dynasty Jinyang Academy. Shanxi University became a key university in Shanxi Province in 1998. In 2005, it became a joint provincial-ministerial university jointly constructed by the Shanxi Provincial People’s Government and the Ministry of Education. In 2012, it became one of the 14 selected universities in the “Middle and Western Colleges and Universities for Enhancing the Comprehensive Strength” and entered a new platform for the country to build “characteristic and high-level” universities. In 2014, Taiyuan Electric Power College with a history of running for sixty years was merged into Shanxi University, and the discipline structure was further improved. In 2016, it became one of the key universities for the construction of “one province, one school” in the central and western regions of the country. In 2017, Shanxi Province issued opinions in support of Shanxi University’s in-depth implementation of the “1331 Project” and the benchmarking of “double first-class” achieved the first development. In 2018, based on the joint construction of provinces and ministries and the construction of “one province and one school”, we have become a joint provincial and provincial university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Shanxi Provincial Government.

Shanxi University has 2224 full-time teachers and 1,082 teachers with senior titles. These include academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, internationally outstanding professional and technical talents, distinguished professors and lecturers from the Yangtze River Scholars, overseas high-level talents of the Thousand Talents Program, high-level leading talents of the Ten Thousand Talents Program, winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, and national outstanding youth science funds. Shanxi University currently has 31528 full-time students, including 24096 undergraduates and 7,432 graduate students.
