Taiyuan University of Science and Technology (太原科技大学, website) is the first undergraduate college of heavy machinery in New China. In 1952, Taiyuan University of Science and Technology, the predecessor of the Shanxi Provincial Machinery Manufacturing Industry School, was established. Mr. Zhi Bingyuan, the founder of modern China’s machinery industry and a pioneer in China’s internal combustion engine development, became the principal. In 1953, the school was placed under the Central Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1955, Changchun Automobile School and Hankou Machine Manufacturing School merged in forging and punching.
