Xi’an Traffic Engineering Institute (西安交通工程学院, website) is a full-time general undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. It is the only general undergraduate college in Shaanxi province that specializes in rail transportation. The school is the only member of the private colleges and universities of the China Vocational Education Association’s Rail Transit Committee. Xi’an Traffic Engineering Institute was founded in 1994, formerly Xi’an Vocational College of Science, Technology, Business and Trade. In 2014, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college and renamed Xi’an Traffic Engineering Institute.

Xi’an Traffic Engineering Institute is composed of two campuses, Xi’an Puyi Campus and Hi-tech Campus. The main campus of Puyi Campus is located at the east bank of Lu’an Lake, a famous scenic spot in Chang’an, the capital of Tang Dynasty in the “Best Place in Guanzhong Mountains and Waters”. The school covers an area of 623 acres, with a total building area of 249,000 square meters, a library of 29,700 square meters, a collection of 620,000 paper books and 660,000 electronic books; and a 23,000 square meter practice teaching center. Building; in accordance with the current national railway operating standards, a 425-meter integrated rail transit practice base integrating electrified railway lines and supporting electric rail cars, communication signal systems, traction substations and stations has been built; the “Ministry of Education-ZTE ICT Products” “Integration of Education and Innovation Base” is one of the innovative applied technology talent training model bases jointly established by the Ministry of Education and ZTE in 30 universities across the country, and is the only base among the first batch of Shaanxi universities to jointly build contracted schools.
