Approved by the Ministry of education, Xiangnan University (湘南学院, website) is a comprehensive full-time regular undergraduate university, which was established in 2003 by the former Chenzhou Normal University, Chenzhou Medical College, Chenzhou Education College and Chenzhou Normal University. Its running history can be traced back to the third women’s normal school in Hunan Province, which was founded in 1912.
The school is located in Chenzhou City, the “18th blessed place in the world” and the “South Gate” of Hunan Province. In 2013, the University passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of education, and is the “national language and character standardization demonstration school”, “national defense education characteristic school”, “Hunan civilized university”, “Hunan garden type unit”, “Hunan Education Information Innovation Demonstration School”, “Hunan Ordinary University transformation and development pilot University” and “China Applied Technology University (College) union” Members of the league. The school is divided into two campuses, Wangxian and Beihu. The main campus (Wangxian campus) is located at the east foot of the beautiful Wangxianling ecological park.
The school covers an area of 1763.27 mu, with a total construction area of 745400 square meters. The school has 22 teaching units, 2 affiliated hospitals, 3 cooperative affiliated hospitals and 110 cooperative education units of industries and enterprises. The school has 1.562 million paper books and 1.57 million e-books. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 166.6112 million yuan. There are 50 undergraduate majors, covering 9 disciplines, including economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management and art. The school enrolls students from 27 provinces, cities and autonomous regions, and now has 19532 full-time students.
The school implements the strategy of strengthening the school with talents. The school has 1547 staff, including 1178 full-time teachers. There are 129 professors (including other senior teachers), 365 associate professors (including other senior teachers), and 952 teachers with doctor’s degree and master’s degree. Among the teachers, there are nearly 60 high-level talents, such as national candidates for the “one million talents project”, members of the higher education index Committee of the Ministry of education, experts enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council, provincial discipline leaders, national excellent teachers, Hunan “new century 121 Talents Project” and provincial young backbone teachers.
