Introduction to Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine
Established in 1960, Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine (云南中医药大学, website) is the second batch of undergraduate colleges and universities of Chinese medicine established in the country. In 2006, the majors of Chinese medicine and traditional Chinese medicine passed the certification of the Ministry of Education. In 2016, it became a joint establishment of the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has become a national clinical research base for Chinese medicine. Adhering to the school motto of “Chongdehehe, Learned and Practiced”, the school has developed into a Chinese medicine as the main body, ethnic medicine as the feature, based on undergraduate education, the scale of postgraduate education is expanding, and foreign education shows a good trend. A comprehensive Chinese medicine university with a coordinated development of engineering and management.
The university has 11,342 full-time students. Among them, 9,951 were undergraduates, 1,159 were postgraduates, and 232 were foreign students in academic education. There are 11 secondary colleges and 1 public teaching department. There are 17 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 14 key disciplines at the provincial level, 1 doctoral degree authorization level for first-level disciplines in Chinese medicine, 4 master-level disciplines for 4 first-level disciplines (covering 28 second-level disciplines), and 4 professional masters Degree points. There are 27 undergraduate majors, including 2 national-level specialty majors, 1 national-level comprehensive reform pilot major, 3 provincial-level comprehensive reform pilot majors, 5 provincial-level specialty majors, and 2 major Yunnan major industry leading brand majors. More than 200 provincial and above teaching quality engineering projects. There are more than 140 practical teaching bases, including 2 directly affiliated hospitals and 14 non-directly affiliated hospitals. There are 980,596 books in paper collection, 384 kinds of paper periodicals, 18,000 volumes of ancient books in wire-bound collection, 61.78TB of electronic resources, 51 Chinese and foreign databases, 3.23 million electronic books (mirror 420,000 volumes, remote use 103) 10,000 volumes), is a national pilot unit of education informatization.

Over the past 59 years, Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine has trained more than 60,000 professionals in traditional Chinese medicine. Some have taken root in Yunling and benefited Sangzi. Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine focuses on three major scientific research clusters: ethnic medicine, southern Yunnan medicine, and southern medicine research. There are provincial key laboratories, engineering technology research centers, traditional Chinese medicine clinical evaluation research centers, engineering laboratories, and public technology service platforms, 2 provincial-level innovation teams, 2 state-level Chinese medicine scientific research third-level laboratories, 9 academician expert workstations, 1 academician workstation site, 2 provincial 2011 collaborative innovation centers, and 2 provincial-level traditional Chinese medicine clinics 1 research base, 1 provincial philosophy and social science research base, 1 provincial technology transfer demonstration institution, 8 provincial key laboratories and engineering centers, and 5 provincial university science and technology innovation teams. The school journal is the core journal of Chinese science and technology.
Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine promotes school administration, school-to-school, school-to-school, school-enterprise cooperation, and builds four platforms of “third-party testing of health products and cosmetics, clinical evaluation research, research and development of health products, and strategic operation center of intellectual property rights of traditional Chinese medicine” to make up for Yunnan Biological Shortcomings in scientific research platforms for the pharmaceutical and health industries. The Yunnan Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Development Research Institute was co-constructed with the Provincial Drug Administration and the Provincial Department of Science and Technology established the “Traditional Chinese Medicine Joint Special Fund”. It is the research center for traditional Chinese medicine policy of Yunnan Province, and the Yunnan Branch of the Chinese Medicine Data Center of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine has the world’s only museum of traditional Chinese medicine and western science; in July 2017, Hanban approved the establishment of the “Confucius Institute Headquarters International (Western) Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Research Base”. The Yunnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine has been built, which is the national base for the promotion and education of traditional Chinese medicine culture and the science popularization education base in Yunnan Province.
As early as 1990, the Yunan University of Chinese Medicine co-sponsored schooling on behalf of China and Spain, and established the “Catalonia-Yunnan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine”, which was included in the 60-year history of Chinese higher education in Chinese medicine. Initiated and hosted the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion Traditional Medicine Exchange Conference in 2007; opened the “Traditional Chinese Medicine Education and Training Center” in Laos in 2015; established the “Langcang River-Mekong Traditional Medicine College” in 2016 to host the first Lancang River-Mekong Traditional Medicine Academic exchanges and the first international medical development exchange conference; in 2017, it was approved as “China-Myanmar Chinese Medicine Center”; in 2018, it hosted the first international Hani medical development exchange conference. It is unique in the research of western science of traditional Chinese medicine. It has successively held five international forums of western science of traditional Chinese medicine, providing a useful reference for “Chinese culture going abroad.” The school has established exchanges and cooperation with more than 30 countries or regions such as the United States, Australia, France, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, etc. It is an international education base for Chinese medicine in Yunnan Province and international scientific and technological cooperation. The base has become the most influential international traditional medicine education exchange and cooperation platform in South Asia and Southeast Asia.
Yunnan Province ranked biomedicine and big health industries as the top eight priority industries, and created three cards of “green energy”, “green food” and “healthy living destinations”. Kunming was approved to establish a national-level big health industry demonstration zone National Botanical Museum. Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine will follow the trend and take advantage of the situation, actively integrate into the “Belt and Road” initiative, healthy China and other national strategies, center on the three strategic positioning of Yunnan, serve the economic and social development of Yunnan, and promote a distinctive high-level university of Chinese medicine.
