Its predecessor was the Yunnan Coal Industry School, established in 1978. In December 2000, it was renamed as Yunnan Engineering and Technology School. In October 2002, with the approval of the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government, the Yunnan Engineering and Technology School, Yunnan Provincial TV University Coal Branch School, and Yunnan Coal Infrastructure Corporation Technical School merged to form the Yunnan Energy Vocational and Technical College.
