Zhejiang Ocean University (浙江海洋大学, website) is a teaching and research university featuring oceans, which was jointly established by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the People ’s Government of Zhejiang Province. The school was founded in 1958 and was originally named Zhoushan Fisheries College. In 1975, it was renamed Zhejiang Fisheries College. In 1998, it merged with Zhoushan Teachers College to form Zhejiang Ocean College. After 2000, Zhoushan Health School, Zhejiang Fisheries School, and Zhejiang Marine Fisheries Research Schools (units) such as the Institute, Zhoushan Petrochemical School and Zhoushan Business School have joined (entered) in succession, and they became more current names in 2016. Over the past 60 years, the school has changed its location and has undergone changes. It has accumulated the spirit of “have a hundred rivers and strive for self-improvement”, and has made important contributions to the cultivation of marine talents, technological innovation, industrial upgrading and cultural inheritance in eastern China, especially in Zhejiang Province. Gradually explored a way to run schools that conforms to the laws of higher education development, is closely integrated with regional economic and social development, and has increasingly distinctive marine characteristics. The school has two campuses: Xincheng Campus and Dinghai Campus. Among them, the main campus is located on Changzhi Island, Zhoushan Islands, Zhejiang Province. It is surrounded by the sea and the scenery is pleasant. It is an ideal place to study.
Zhejiang Ocean University covers a total area of 2608 acres (including 720 acres of sea area), the school building construction area is 482,000 square meters, 1.889 million paper books, and teaching and research equipment assets exceed 430 million yuan. Carry out postgraduate education, general undergraduate education, continuing education and international student education, and jointly train doctoral students with universities abroad. There are science, agronomy, engineering, management, economics, literature, history, education and other disciplines. It has 9 first-level master’s programs in marine science, aquaculture, marine and marine engineering, oil and gas engineering, food science and engineering, agricultural and forestry economic management, mechanical engineering, mathematics, and water conservancy engineering, transportation, agriculture, education, tourism management, There are 5 professional master’s degree categories in pharmacy, and they have the right to grant master’s degrees with the same academic level. There are 48 undergraduate majors, including 2 national first-class majors, 2 national characteristic majors, 10 provincial first-class majors, 9 provincial key majors, 4 provincial dominant majors, and 8 provincial emerging specialty majors. There are now 10 colleges, scientific research institutions such as the Zhejiang Marine Fisheries Research Institute, and an independent college, the East China Sea Science and Technology College of Zhejiang Ocean University. It has 11,202 full-time students of various types; 1,127 faculty members, including 781 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 392 doctors and 417 senior professional technical posts, including 150 senior technical posts. Zhejiang Ocean University established the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of the Ministry of Science and Technology. It established teaching and scientific research cooperation relations with 55 universities abroad. Zhejiang Ocean University also carried out 6 joint doctoral programs and multiple double master programs, and cooperated with St. Petersburg State Marine Technology University in Russia. It is a unit of the “Belt and Road” South-South Cooperation Agricultural Education Technology Innovation Alliance.
College of Foreign Languages
The college now has two undergraduate majors in English and Business English. Business English began to enroll in 2013. The main direction of English majors is English education and applied translation, and the main direction of business English majors is international trade and international logistics. Among them, the English major was rated as an excellent major in the 2015 professional evaluation. In the course of running schools for more than thirty years, the college has trained many foreign language talents for primary and secondary schools and foreign trade enterprises and institutions in Zhejiang Province and even the whole country.
