Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic (中山火炬职业技术学院, website), founded in April 2004, is located in the national Zhongshan Torch High-tech Industrial Development Zone, and is naturally surrounded by eight national industrial bases in the development zone. The five major industries of the industrial park, four major emerging industries, and more than 1,000 companies have provided a wealth of internship training resources for the college.
Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic currently has nearly 7,000 full-time students and more than 6,000 registered students in continuing education. There are 426 faculty members, including 22 professors, 97 associate professors (including senior engineers), and 28 doctors. The key development areas of the Torch Program project are: electronics and information, biotechnology, new materials, opto-mechatronics, new energy, energy efficiency and environmental protection. Through the implementation of the Torch Plan project, high-tech enterprises and enterprise groups have been created.

The Zhongshan Torch High-tech Industrial Development Zone was jointly established by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Zhongshan Municipal Government in 1990, and was approved by the State Council as a national high-tech zone in 1991. With the implementation of the development strategy in the east of Zhongshan City, the Torch Development Zone and Cuiheng New District have achieved continuous development, and the area has expanded from the original 90 square kilometers to 230 square kilometers. Taking this as a platform, through the Shenzhen-China Corridor, it actively connects with Shenzhen Qianhai Free Trade Zone and actively integrates into the development strategy of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao “Great Bay Area”.
On 230 square kilometers of hot soil, China Electronics (Zhongshan) Base, China Packaging and Printing Industry Base, National Health Science and Technology Industry Base, National High-Tech Product Export Processing Base, China Technology Market Industrialization (Zhongshan) Demonstration Base, Eight national-level bases, including the National Torch Plan Zhongshan (Linhai) Equipment Manufacturing Base, Zhongshan National Modern Service Industry Digital Medical Industrialization Base, and National Advanced Equipment Manufacturing (Zhongshan) High-tech Industrialization Base National High-tech Industrial Development Zone with a brand of base.
A solid industrial foundation and a flexible and efficient school-running model provide a good practice carrier for the in-depth development of vocational education production, study, and research cooperation. In July 2016, the Trilateral Vocational Technical Education Research Center of the Ministry of Education, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government signed an agreement to set up the “South China Vocational Education Industry-University-Research Cooperation Experimental Base” in Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic.
