Job Description
Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Professor on tenure terms or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Chinese Art History in the School of Humanities (Ref.: 530392), to commence on September 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent by the date of appointment. This post is open in its range of periods and media, but preference will be given to specialists focusing on art from the tenth century onwards. We are interested in candidates whose specialization will expand the Department’s current curriculum and existing expertise. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in research and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Candidates with skills in digital technologies are strongly encouraged to apply.
The appointee is expected to develop rigorous and critical research, to excel in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and to participate in administrative duties. The current teaching load is set at three courses per year. We have a robust programme with undergraduates, taught postgraduates and research graduates (M.Phil. and Ph. D. students). Humanities research at HKU is well-supported, with excellent library resources, research grants from the University and the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, and support for research-related travel and teaching relief. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary for fixed-term appointment.
