Job Title: Script Editor
Department: CGTN Documentary
Contract: 12 months (can be extended based on performance)
Location: Beijing, China
*This position is based in Beijing and only open to foreign passport holders*
AIMS OF THE JOB
•To ensure that commissioned scripts are of the required standard, and are available for use at the appropriate time;
•To provide editorial and research support to the script team;
•To advise on all script related matters associated with the production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•To check and edit English scripts of Chinese documentaries and get them ready for voice dubbing and subtitling;
•To edit scripts for other program-related translations, trailers, promos, etc;
•To provide editorial and research support to the script team;
•To advise on all script-related matters associated with production;
•Pitch story ideas and write description and script, work with video editor to make a video;
•Complete other tasks assigned by superiors.
REQUIREMENTS
•Native English speaker with a valid passport;
•Bachelor’s Degree or above;
•Minimum 3 years of work experience in the television industry;
•A demonstrable interest in documentaries and creative writing;
•Practical experience of script editing; Keen editorial judgment based on a thorough understanding of CGTN Documentary editorial guidelines, target audiences, and programme objectives;
•The ability to interpret editorial intentions and to contribute to the generation of ideas and the resolution of script problems; Experience of handling controversial information with tact and sensitivity;
•The ability to work against tight deadlines;
•A broad knowledge of Chinese culture and experience as a narrator or dubbing director is preferred.
