EAP Coordinator (English for Academic Purposes) TLR 4 – Starting Aug 2024 – Sha Tin College

Sha Tin College is seeking to appoint an EAP Coordinator to lead and manage the education and provision for Bilingual and Multilingual Learners (BMLs) requiring additional support in English. There will also be opportunities to support students with Level of Adjustment 1 and 2 who require Literacy support or Academic Skills Enhancement. Suitable candidates should hold a qualification in the field of EAL, have experience supporting BMLs, and have worked in a secondary school. In partnership and in consultation with the Head of Faculty, the EAP Coordinator will focus on supporting BMLs access to the MYP, GCSE/IGCSE, and IBDP/CP curriculum. This role also incorporates developing differentiated curriculum, co-teaching English classes, strategically supporting teachers to meet the needs of BMLs and leading provision for GCSE and IBDP support. The EAP Coordinator will focus on the areas below.

Responsibilities

Teaching, Learning & Curriculum:

• Develop curriculum for and teach EAP classes at MYP, GCSE and IBDP/CP level. This may involve ESL IGCSE and English Language B where student needs are identified
• Support students in mainstream classes through intervention, consultation with teachers, and co-teaching
• Work as a member of the Learning Support Department and collaboratively with Curriculum Leaders to facilitate support for all students
• Work with mainstream staff on curriculum development and ways to meet the needs of BMLs
• Lead professional learning opportunities to develop school-wide practices in addressing the needs of BMLs across the school
• Support transition phases by liaising with stakeholders including parents, colleagues, and primary school counterparts
• Network and collaborate with colleagues outside of STC to support the implementation and continual development of best practices
• Communicate effectively and efficiently with the entire school community about access, and support of BMLs
• Promote the ethos of Content and Language and Integrated Learning (CLIL) in the approach to provision and differentiated instruction within mainstream classes
• Use effective English Language Assessments to identify student needs, inform provision mapping and monitor student progress over time
• Work within a tiers of support model that demonstrates a graduated response to provision
• Use assessment findings to create Learner Profiles which detail students’ language levels, descriptors, and strategies for support

Leading the faculty team:

• Collaborate with the Head of Faculty to manage support provision for BMLs
• Liaise and collaborate with Heads & Deputy Heads of Faculty, Heads of Department and Heads of Year, as appropriate
• Coordinate with ESF colleagues to ensure provision is in alignment with Foundation direction and best practice
• Work with the Admissions Team to assess English proficiency, and BMLs requiring English Language Support, and provide relevant advice to parents about students who are unsuccessful with applications
• Work with Educational Assistants to ensure that BML students are supported in mainstream classes with their academic studies
• Provide ‘whole school’ CPD to teachers to support inclusive practices of BMLs in mainstream classrooms

Management & Administration:

• Maintain open communication with parents regarding student progress
• Maintain online registers, assessment data and appropriate record-keeping
• Liaise with the Head of Faculty and Examinations Officer and IBDP/CP Coordinators to complete exam access arrangements applications and administer access arrangements during examinations
• Ensure that the learning environment and display areas in the Faculty are well-maintained

Knowledge and Experience:

• University-level qualification in teaching BMLs and/or EAP
• A sound practical knowledge of curriculum development
• Solid ICT skills
• Previous experience working in a Secondary school setting
