Position Title:       Elementary School Assistant Principal
Division:               Administration
Supervisor:           Elementary School Principal
 
Position Summary:  The Elementary School Assistant Principal serves provides assistance to the Elementary School Principal in leadership of the Elementary School program. He/She is responsible for helping to ensure that the policies, facilities, regulations and procedures of the Elementary School are enacted properly.

Key Areas of Responsibility
Adviser
  • Serves as adviser to the Elementary School Principal.
  • Helps review Admissions Folders throughout the calendar year.
Community Relations Development
  • Develops student-focused or learning-focused family and faculty handbooks.
  • Coordinates efforts to ensure high quality home/school communication systems are in place.
    • Weekly Newsletters
    • Teacher and ES web site updates
    • Assessment results and other specific parent/home communication pieces
  • Serves on ES Leadership Team.
  • Meets regularly with Concordia’s other Assistant Principals to aid with alignment of communication and instructional strategies and tools.
    • Serves on the Charity Committee
  • Oversees, writes and arranges for the distribution of flyers, posters, and other announcements for the ES community.
  • Orients staff and students who are new to Concordia and also helps with the transition processes of those leaving.
  • Helps ES Leadership in the planning and implementation of ES Parent Coffees.
  • Works with Administrative Assistant in planning events.
Recruitment, Staff and Program Development Supervision, & Evaluation 
   Teacher & Staff Support
  • Observes staff in their classrooms upon request of the Elementary School principal and offers insights for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situation.
  • Trains new staff on the policies and procedures of the Elementary School.  (i.e. copy center use, field trips, etc.)
  • Assists teachers with grading, assessment, and reporting procedures.
  • Approves field experiences and ensures that field experience logistics are appropriate and effective for student safety.
  • Serves as a member of the ES Professional Development Team.
  • Supports and collaborates with the Assistant to the Elementary regarding Co-Curricular Activities (CCA).
  • Organizes and oversees the professional growth program for support staff.
  • Organizes and oversees the substitute teaching program within the Elementary School Program.  
  • Organizes and oversees the student teaching program within the Elementary School Program.  Serves as a liaison between Concordia and participating universities.
   Student Support
  • Assists with student conduct management
  • Assists ES Principal with developing and maintaining a safe learning environment (physical plant, safety drills, etc.)
  • Oversees the arrival and dismissal of students.
  • Serves on the Student Review Team (SRT).
  • Coordinates with instructional coaches to ensure proper implementation of school initiatives.
  • Coordinates with Team Leaders, Staff and ES Admin for special events.  (i.e. International Festival, Whole-School Assemblies, etc.)
