Position Title: ES/MS Strings Teacher
Division: ES/MS
Supervisor: Division Principals
Position Summary:
Collaboration is at the heart of our educational approach, and all teachers in the divisions are expected to engage in respectful teamwork with grade-level peers and colleagues across the division. Prior teaching experience is a requirement for this role.
Teaching candidates must be able to clearly articulate developmentally appropriate instructional practices that are research-based, current, and include integration of technology, inquiry, and creativity as foundational components.
In order to meet Concordia school-wide learning outcomes (SLOs) and grade level expectations, the teacher carries out the following broad and specific responsibilities across the following domains: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Management, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities.
To include preparation and direction of six (6) curricular ensembles ranging from beginning to advanced levels from ES to MS. Other duties include fostering/leading after-school music opportunities for students and preparation and participation in external music festivals.
Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area.
- A certification in education.
- Advanced degree or specialization training that supports the teaching role, preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years successful teaching in a school setting.
- Teaching in the subject area and with the age of students assigned.
- Cello Specialist preferred.
- Working successfully with an ethnically diverse population.
- Working with students with learning differences.
- Working with students who are English Language Learners (ELL).
- Working in an international school setting and familiarity with the American educational system, preferred.
- Creating units of work using Universal by Design (UbD) strategies, preferred.
Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of the developmental needs and milestones of students in the age group you are teaching.
- Knowledgeable about:
- Developing appropriate practices
- Using a variety of formative assessments, progress monitoring tools, and differentiated learning strategies
- The content and pedagogy
- Effective communicator – communicates well with a diverse community of parents, staff, and leaders; proficient writing skills.
- Highly skillful at using and integrating technology.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.

- Additional employment expectations:
- Collaborate with Teaching Assistants/Support Staff in working with or monitoring children and managing clerical tasks. Establish expectations and guidelines for these adults in the learning environment and help them understand their roles/responsibilities.
- Undertake additional duties that may reasonably be assigned or requested by the Supervisor such as leading student trips, serving as chaperon roles as needed.

Job Specific Expectations will be assigned from the following:
CURRICULAR
- Prepare and direct six (6) curricular ensembles ranging from beginning to advanced levels. These will be a combination of Middle School and Elementary classes based on the needs of each division.
- Prepare ensembles for three to four (3-4) concerts per year.
- Prepare music ensembles for assemblies and special school events.
- Collaborate with music peers on curriculum planning and overall music program for ES and MS.
- Collaborate with fine arts peers in department meetings and projects.
- Collaborate with the marketing department to promote concert performances and special events.
CO-CURRICULAR
- Foster extracurricular music opportunities for students by leading after-school ensembles.
- Prepare students for and travel to ES/MS SEA festivals and ES/MS AMIS festivals.
- Manage travel arrangements and travel with students to the annual AMIS Festivals with student performers for four to five (4-5) nights per festival each school year.
