Applications are now invited for 2 teaching positions at the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College (HAITC) at Hainan University.
Position A: Lecturer experienced in teaching Intercultural Communication and Academic Writing (teaching starts in 2025 spring semester)
Position B: Lecturer experienced in teaching Public Speaking and English Listening and Speaking courses (teaching starts in 2025 spring semester)

School Information
Hainan University (HNU) in Haikou, Hainan Province, is one of China’s key “211” universities. HNU’s HAITC is an innovative Sino-foreign cooperative tourism institution in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU). HAITC currently offers three dual-degree programs: Tourism Development and Management, Human Geography and Urban-Rural Planning, and Public Administration. Courses are taught in English by both HNU and ASU faculty members. Our goal is to cultivate a new generation of leaders in public governance and global tourism with a vision for sustainable development.
Our partner, the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at ASU, is a vibrant community of scholars committed to excellence in education and innovative responses to collective challenges. Watts College includes the School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) and the School of Public Affairs (SPA). SPA is ranked #13 in the U.S., according to U.S. News and World Report, and #5 in research, according to the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities. Based on 2018 CWUR academic rankings of global universities, ASU is #7 in the world (#2 in the U.S.) in subjects of hospitality, leisure, sports, and tourism.
Lecturer in English Composition, Public Speaking and Intercultural Communication
Job Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to deliver excellent in-class instruction at the undergraduate level and participate in service activities for the college and student body. Contributing to graduate education is anticipated in the future. These faculty positions are renewable depending on teaching performance.
Qualifications
1) Required qualifications:
A Master’s Degree or above from an internationally recognized university (PhD is preferred for position A).
Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
Ability to work with culturally diverse students and faculty.
2) Desired qualifications
A degree in education, linguistics, communication or related fields
A CELTA/TESL/TEFL/TESOL certificate
Evidence of teaching effectiveness from supervisors, peers or students
3) Working conditions
Full-time lecturers are expected to teach at least 12 hours per week and contribute at least two more hours per week to educational activities outside the classroom. Any additional work assigned by the college will be paid extra.
HAITC offers its faculty members competitive university salaries and housing conditions.
During periods of travel restrictions, lecturers who are able to teach classes online will also be considered for the position.
