Job Description
On July 12, 2022, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited Xinjiang University where he inspected the university’s history museum and the research base for casting a firm sense of Chinese national community. Xi jingping underscored: “The root of education lies in morality. We must adhere to the direction of socialist schooling and cultivate socialist builders and successors who are well-rounded in moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic development. We should highlight our advantages and characteristics, build a high-level faculty, enhance our scientific research and innovation capabilities, and promote the construction of Xinjiang University’s “double first-class’ to a new level”.
The university has more than 1,900 teachers and 34,400 students of various types. It has three campuses, namely Honghu Campus, Friendship Campus and Boda Campus, of which Boda Campus, located in the new area of Hemaquan in Shuimagou District, officially opened in October 2021, will provide a better platform and research environment for professional and technical talents. I. Requirements
1. To implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, love the Party’s education, have a strong sense of commitment and dedication, abide by disciplinary regulations and the law, have high moral integrity, be academically honest and rigorous. In principle, you should have a PhD or have obtained a senior title.
2. Strong teaching and research ability and teamwork spirit, with a desire to develop in the frontier and serve the economic and social development of Xinjiang.
3. Physically fit and able to meet the needs of talent training, teaching and research, social services and other work.
II. Positions
1. High-level Leaders. National-level outstanding talents, holding professorships and equivalent positions in renowned universities and research institutions at home and abroad, or undertaking national scientific and technological tasks, producing important academic results, and having the ability to lead the discipline to catch up with or lead the international advanced level; other scholars of equivalent academic level or above.
2. Discipline Leading Talents. Winners, not more than 45 years old, are highly influential in academia or industry, have high academic achievements, are competent in teaching core courses, have outstanding research achievements in their discipline, have innovative ideas for discipline construction and academic research, have strong team leadership and the ability to transform scientific and technological achievements, have the ability to help their discipline catch up or maintain international advanced level, and have the potential to become leading talents.
3. Academic Backbone. Candidates should have a professional and technical position at associate senior level or above, be competent in teaching core courses, and have a broad academic perspectives and innovative thinking, and in the past five years, they have the experience of leading national research projects and have achieved a series of academic results with significant impact on the development of the discipline and have the potential to become an academic or technical leader in the field.
4. Excellent Young Scholars. Candidates should have a PhD and be no more than 40 years old in the humanities and social sciences; no more than 35 years old in the natural sciences; be dedicated to academics, be innovative, have research experience in the frontier of academia, and have achieved representative research results.
5. Team Talent. The team leader must be a discipline leader or above, with at least three team members with PhD degrees, and the relevant research can play an important role in promoting the university’s discipline development.
III. Benefits
1. Title Assessment
Applicants who already have senior professional and technical positions will be appointed according to their original professional and technical positions upon arrival at the university; those who do not have senior professional and technical positions and have more than one year’s working experience can apply for appointment as associate professors in the year they arrive at the university, and those who meet the requirements will be awarded qualifications and formally appointed; those who do not have senior professional and technical positions and have no working experience will enjoy the salary of associate professors (national salary standard) in the year they arrive at the university and apply for appointment as associate professors in the following year, and those who meet the requirements will be awarded qualifications and formally appointed.
2. Emoluments
a) High-level Leaders and Discipline Leading Talents
Salary, research start-up funding, housing package, team building and research conditions are negotiable.
b) Academic Backbone
- An annual salary of 300,000 – 400,000 RMB/year before tax during the entitlement period (three years), including a special allowance of 200,000 – 300,000 RMB/year; eligible candidates will be actively recommended for relevant national and autonomous region talent support programmes.
- The funding for projects that have a significant impact on the development of the university will be discussed on a case-by-case basis according to the actual needs of the faculty (research institution).
- Settlement fee of RMB 450,000 (after tax) and provision of a set of swing space (rent-free, two years’ residence) or a set of group housing/protected housing for talents (80-150m2) at a preferential price.
c) Excellent Young Scholars
- An annual salary of not less than RMB 150,000-250,000/year before tax during the entitlement period (three years), including a special allowance of RMB 70,000-150,000/year; for those who meet the requirements, they will be actively recommended for relevant national and autonomous region talent support programmes.
- The funding for projects that have a significant impact on the development of the university will be discussed on a case-by-case basis according to the actual needs of the faculty (research institution).
- Settlement fee of 250,000-350,000 RMB (after tax) and provision of a set of swing space (rent-free, two-year residence) or a set of group housing/talent-secured housing (80-150m2) at a preferential rate.
d) Team Talent
Salary, research start-up funds, housing treatment, title evaluation, children’s enrolment and spouse’s work, etc. are determined according to the work assignment.
e) Other
The University has provided a comprehensive career development path for the introduced talents, taking into account all aspects of research time guarantee, office (laboratory) provision, matching team, title promotion, postgraduate supervisor appointment, remuneration, children’s schooling, spouse’s work, etc., to provide comprehensive policy protection for the rapid development of high-level talents.
