About BASIS International Schools
The first BASIS International School opened in Shenzhen in 2015, and was the first BASIS Curriculum school outside of the United States. BASIS International School Shenzhen welcomed over 400 students in grades Pre-K – 10 in what has been recognized as the largest opening of an international school in the history of southern China. The school now serves students in grades Pre-K – 12.
BASIS International School Shenzhen has enjoyed a number of academic, athletic, and artistic successes in its first six years. More than two dozen students have qualified for the World Scholars’ Cup Global Round, and several teams have advanced to its Yale University rounds. The AP pass rate surpasses the U.S. national average in more than ten subject areas. Student produced plays and fine arts productions have sold out local theatres in the Shekou area. A growing speech and debate program has also allowed students to participate in regional Model United Nations Conferences and other competitions. The National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society have also encouraged community participation through raising money for charities, and participating in community service activities.
The school celebrated its first graduating class in 2019, and graduates in the past three years have achieved acceptances to many top colleges and universities around the world, including University of Chicago, Duke University, Cornell University, Imperial College London, University of Toronto, and Parsons the New School. Of the Class of 2021, 83% of graduates received offers from schools ranked in the Top 30 of the US News and World Report; 100% received offers from schools in the Top 50.
The campus is located in the expat-friendly Shekou neighborhood of Shenzhen, with numerous Western restaurants of all types of cuisine, shopping complexes, and even movie theaters with new releases in English. Shenzhen is often referred to as “China-lite” by Westerners because you will easily find many Western amenities. The location is also very convenient, with both Hong Kong and Guangzhou just a short ferry or train ride away.
Our network has continued to grow with BASIS International School Guangzhou in 2017, BASIS International Schools Park Lane Harbour and Hangzhou opened in 2018, BASIS International School Nanjing in 2019, and our first bilingual school, BASIS Bilingual School Shenzhen, in 2020. We are continuing to expand and grow into new cities and seeking talented educators to grow with us!
