We’re looking to recruit a Head of Art to join The British School of Guangzhou, a Nord Anglia Education school.

THE SCHOOL

The British School of Guangzhou is at the forefront of international education in China. Established in 2005 for students aged 1-18, our school is recognised for academic excellence leading to outstanding A-Level results and entry to top universities worldwide. We have two main campuses, BSG Nanhu (South Lake Campus) and BSG Olympic Park campus (Huangpu). The South Lake Campus is about 20-minute drive north of the city centre, enjoys picturesque views over Nanhu Lake and a golf course. All classrooms are attractively furnished, air-conditioned and equipped with WiFi and an interactive whiteboard or Smart TV. The school has impressive resources and facilities including music rooms, guided reading rooms, IT zones, science labs, a dance studio, sports gym, libraries, a theatre and two coffee shops for staff and parents. Outdoor facilities include three age-specific football pitches, a swimming pool, basketball courts, a well-equipped X-fit gym and an adventure playground. The Olympic Park campus is our new, purpose-built campus for Early Years and Primary students, located in the heart of Huangpu, this exciting Olympic Park building houses leading-edge facilities to support our collaborations with The Juilliard School and MIT — offering the very best performing arts and STEAM environments.

THE ROLE

  • Effectively manage the operational aspects of the department.
  • Be accountable for student outcomes.
  • Effectively liaise with all stakeholders.

ABOUT YOU

The successful applicant will be joining a team of enthusiastic teachers across both our Southlake and Olympic Park campuses’. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Art or a hugely enthusiastic art teacher ready to step into subject leadership to join our well-established school. You will be able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment, you will possess a university degree, a recognised teaching qualification and considerable teaching experience. All our staff are expected to promote the Core Values of the British School of Guangzhou, and be able to ensure that teaching and learning meets the needs and expectations of the individual children, and the wider school community. You will be expected to demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge and a proactive approach towards the wellbeing of young children, yourself and others, including your own professional development.

2022 IGCSE RESULTS

The two main criteria that are used to judge examination performance for 16 year olds in the UK are; achieving 5 grades at ‘C’ or above, and the number of the highest grades achieved. We are very proud that 100% of all examinations sat by the British School of Guangzhou students received grade ‘C’ or above.

This is a tremendous achievement, but our top students really shone with 62% of exams taken awarded either grade ‘A*’ or ‘A ‘- the highest possible grades. This is compared to the UK’s average of 29%, showing just how far ahead our students are as they move to university entry. 

A particular mention must go to the Science Department with 91% of grades awarded A*-A for Triple Science and to our Mandarin Department who recorded 100% A*-A grades.

2022 A-LEVEL RESULTS

With a 100% pass rate, our A-Level results are testament to our academic success and commitment to building a lifelong love of learning.

59% of exams taken by our students achieved an ‘A’ or ‘A*’ grade (UK average 44%).

81% achieved A*- B grades (UK average 70%)

It’s worth mentioning that over 80% of students received A* in Further Maths, Physics and Geography.
