JOB GOAL/PURPOSE:
To deliver high-quality English instruction that develops students’ reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills. The teacher will create an engaging and inclusive learning environment, supporting students in mastering the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and preparing them for academic and personal success in a globalized world.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
Leads:
• Design and implement dynamic English lessons that align with ISB’s curriculum standards and the appropriate frameworks, emphasizing effective critical reading, communication, analysis and writing skills
• Supervise and lead a Mentoring/Homeroom group; effectively deliver SEL curriculum and community building activities
• Direct student-led discussions, workshops, and creative writing sessions, promoting critical engagement with texts and collaborative learning.
Supports:
• Provide individualized feedback and mentorship to students, helping them develop strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.
• Support students with targeted guidance to meet their individual needs.
• Assist in creating differentiated classroom experiences utilizing a range of instruction strategies to support diverse learning abilities and styles, ensuring all students have access to learning and growth.
Collaborates:
• Work closely with the Secondary Curriculum Coordinator and department colleagues to plan, review, and enhance curriculum units, ensuring alignment with relevant standards and ISB’s academic goals.
• Moderate and align marking, grading and feedback with department colleagues
• Collaborate with other subject teachers on interdisciplinary projects that integrate English language skills and literature with other areas of study.
• Partner with parents and guardians through regular communication and meetings to discuss student progress, performance, and development strategies.
Attends:
• Participate in department and professional development meetings, as well as school-wide training sessions to stay updated on educational best practices.
• Attend school community events, student performances, and extracurricular activities to support and engage with the broader school environment.
• Engage in professional growth opportunities such as workshops and conferences that enhance subject expertise and teaching effectiveness.
Engages:
• Foster a classroom environment that promotes a love for reading and writing by incorporating a wide range of texts and genres into the curriculum
• Actively engage students in discussions and projects that connect literature to global issues, encouraging them to think critically and empathetically

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
• Current, relevant teaching certification/licensure
• Minimum of five years of successful full-time teaching experience
• Full proficiency in the English language
