Job description:
· The Latvian Lecturer will be based in the School of European Languages and Cultures at the university. The Latvian Lecturer will teach primarily the Latvian language at all levels of the BA. He or she may also organize and teach courses in literature, linguistics, culture, or other appropriate subjects. He or she will undertake reasonable administrative tasks, as directed by the Head of the School of European Languages and Cultures.
· The teaching obligation will constitute the core assignment for the Latvian Lecturer. Teaching is understood to encompass planning and grading assigned coursework and examinations. The classroom teaching obligation will normally constitute no more than 8 hours a week.
· The Latvian Lecturer will also be involved in arranging cultural activities, in cooperation with local organizations, the Latvian Embassy, or other relevant partners. Planning these cultural activities will normally constitute no more than 2 hours a week. The Latvian Lecturer will also advise students about study opportunities in Latvia.
Required qualifications:
· The Latvian Lecturer must hold at least a university master’s degree, and have Latvian as his/her mother-tongue.
· Experience and skills in teaching a foreign language, preferably Latvian, is a prerequisite.
· Expertise in areas such as linguistics, literature, pedagogy, second language acquisition, cultural studies or regional studies is an advantage.
· The lecturer should have a high proficiency in oral and written English.

· The university will cover the travel expenses between Beijing and the Latvian Lecturer’s hometown in the beginning and at the end of the employment period.
· The university will provide the lecturer with accommodation (on-campus housing, or a monthly rent supplement if he or she lives outside the campus), medical care (10000 RMB per year), personal accident insurance, vacations and holidays, sick leave, leave of absence, and departure allowance, as stipulated in Appendix “Agreement on Party B’s living conditions and payment.
· The university will assist the Latvian Lecturer and his/her family in the visa process, hereunder in the process of collecting an applying for necessary documents such as a letter of invitation from the Chinese authorities.
· The university will provide the Latvian Lecturer with appropriate office space, support and office facilities as appropriate to the requisites of the Latvian Lecturer’s assigned duties and commensurate with those of fellow lecturers.
