Job Description

Position Title: Mandarin Teacher – Replacement Sub 
Supervisor: Director of Mandarin
Sub Dates: February to end of November, 2023
 
Position Summary: Substitute teachers are expected to carry out the responsibilities of the regular classroom teacher, including leading instruction and maintaining classroom routines and procedures. Teachers of Mandarin at Concordia International School Shanghai are charged with the responsibility of delivering the subject curriculum to students using accepted best practices of instructional methodology, communicating student progress with parents, working in collaboration with team members to develop and deepen curricular units, participating fully in the required activities of the school, and supporting the learning and social development of all students with a high level of professionalism.
 
Requirements:
Education
[Required]
-Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language Literature or Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language
-Chinese national teaching certificate 
-Chinese national citizen
[Desired]
-Degree in Chinese Language Literature preferred
 
Experience
[Required]
-Minimum of two years school setting classroom teaching experience
-High degree of fluency in Mandarin is required, preference given to those who are also fluent English speakers.
[Desired]
-International school or overseas teaching experience preferred
 
Skills
[Required]
-Fluent spoken and written English
-General computer skills
-In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
[Desired]
-Familiarity with student database systems
-Familiarity with U.S. educational system
-Fluency in Mandarin

Provide differentiated support and instruction to ensure that students develop understanding of content and apply skills.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students
Implement best practice in instructional strategies
o Assessment
Assess student learning. Plan and administer a variety of appropriate diagnostic, formative and summative assessments
Analyse and use the data provided by the assessments to guide instruction.

o Co-curricular Activities—Addressing the needs of the whole child is an important part of our ethos and a Concordia teacher embraces opportunities to work with students beyond the classroom.
Contribute to the school and community by participating in one or more student activities outside of the classroom.  Teachers lead or assist with an after-school activities/clubs, coach, and/or direct artistic performances in order to provide students with a variety of opportunities to widen their interests and develop alternate means of self-expression.  
Participate actively in off-campus educational field-experiences
Support student activities through attendance at and encouragement of student participation in co-curriculars.
