Raffles American School (RAS) is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Middle School English teacher to join our Middle & High School team in January 2025.
Applicants should be US state licensed educators OR hold a US-equivalent transferable credential (e.g. UK QTS, Canadian/Australian B.Ed.) Note that a Masters Degree, PGCEi or other postgraduate degree without classroom practicum/QTS is not considered equivalent in the international school job market. Candidates without these credentials will only be considered if they have significant experience teaching in an accredited, formal school.
The position commences 6th January, 2025. Working hours are from 7:15 am. to 3:15 pm. Full-time teaching course loads are approximately 18-20 55-minute lessons per week (out of 30), with 8-10 planning and preparation periods. Class sizes range from 10 to 21 students. There are approximately 180 school days each year, and teachers are paid in full every month, including summers. Students are released an hour early every Friday and the hour is used for PD and collaborative teacher work time. We follow Common Core Standards as grade-level learning objectives, next year we will launch our first cohort of the IBDP in G11, and we use NWEA’s MAP adaptive assessments to measure individual improvement three times annually.
Duties include:
– Planning (Annual Pacing Guides, Lesson planning throughout probation)
– Grading and Reporting (Online Grading System PowerSchool)
– Formative Assessment Tracking & Student Portfolios
– Summative Assessments at the end of each quarter
– Participation in CPD and ongoing School Improvement Process
– Supervision (15 min break or 20 min lunch/recess)
– 1 semester of after-school ECA, 3:30-4:30 twice weekly for 10 weeks (20 sessions)
RAS also places great emphasis on its pastoral care program. Most full-time teachers are asked to be class Advisors in the Middle or High School, becoming an adult advocate for their Advisory class, and delivering a Personal Social Health Economics (PSHE) curriculum 2 lessons per week. These lessons are designed and put together by our School Counselors & PSHE Coordinator, but delivered by Advisory teachers.
We offer competitive salaries, with fully qualified and licensed teachers starting at 75-85,000THB (dependent on experience) for full-time core subject and homeroom teacher roles. There is no additional housing stipend. Overseas candidates will be reimbursed for their flight to Thailand (guidelines will be shared by HR to the successful candidate) and provided round-trip airfare to their home country at the end of each two year contract. Visa and work-permit expenses will be reimbursed by RAS. Medical, accident, disability, and life insurance are also provided. Professional development funding of $500USD per contract is available to our teachers.
