Job Description

Position Title:       English Language Learning (ELL) Specialist
Division:                MS
Supervisor:           Director of English Language Learning and Division Principal
 
Position Summary: 
The ELL Specialist collaborates with divisional faculty and the Student Support Services Team, including the whole of the P-12 ELL team, to develop an inclusive and differentiated learning environment at Concordia. The ELL Specialist supports identified language learners through various models of instruction.  The ELL Specialist provides relevant professional development to individual teachers, grade-level teams, the entire faculty, and parents.
 
Requirements:
      Education
      [Required]              
▪       Degree, license or certificate in supporting language learners
▪       Masters or advanced degree (preferred)
▪       Native English speaker or native like English proficiency
      Experience
      [Required]
▪       Minimum 2 years successful teaching full-time in an inclusive ELL program
      [Desired]                 
▪       Working in an international school setting and familiarity with an American-style MS/HS educational system
▪       Working successfully with a culturally diverse population
▪       Experience with co-teaching and/or parallel team-teaching
▪       Experience with WIDA and/or other ELL programs that support English learners in the content areas
▪       Classroom inclusion experience

General Expectations: 
▪       As a school grounded in the Christian faith, we hire Christian teachers and administrators. Concordia seeks to hire candidates who are able to model their faith, are interested in the complex questions of faith and spirituality, and who are keen to learn and interact with others of different faith traditions.
▪       On regular school days, on duty between 7:45AM and 3:45PM, not inclusive of activities and meetings.
▪       Other duties as assigned.
 
Job Specific Expectations
·        Meet or exceed the competency standards laid out in the Key Areas of Responsibility below
·        Promote a commonly held English learning vision for the school (i.e. “All teachers are language teachers.”) and contribute to the development of the P-12 ELL program with particular focus in the MS/HS
·        Assist MS/HS subject teachers with development of their competencies with respect to the concept that “All teachers are language teachers.”
·        Provide in-class language support for students alongside their subject teachers
▪       Plan differentiated lessons according to student language levels for both targeted English language learning (i.e., pull-out) but also for learning in-class in the subject areas
·        Collaborate with ELL specialists and subject teachers over professional learning/development connected to school-wide goals, including leading professional development activities when required
·        Provide English learning support for all community members in assigned areas, including being a first point of contact for parents where required
·        Ability to organize projects, build coalitions, and move projects forward
·        Be considered by colleagues as the go-to person for questions related to assigned areas

    • Demonstrate knowledge of current trends in specialty area and professional development
