Job Description

Position Title:       Choral Music Teacher
Division:               High School/Middle School Fine Arts Dept.
Supervisor:          HS Principal
 
Position Summary: 
To include preparation and direction of four-five (4-5) curricular choirs ranging from beginning to advanced levels from the middle and high schools.  These may include one-two (1-2) middle school choirs, in addition to three to four  (3-4) high school choirs. Other duties include fostering/leading after-school music opportunities for students with preparation and participation in external music festivals and the annual high school musical. 
 
In order to meet Concordia student learning results and grade level expectations, the choral teacher carries out the following broad domains: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Management, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities.
 
Requirements:
         Education
         [Required]
▪       Bachelor’s degree in music education or vocal performance
         [Desired]             
▪       Master’s degree in music education or choral/vocal performance
▪       Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for a wider, global musical experience
 
         Experience
         [Required]
▪       Minimum 2 years of successful teaching in a school setting
▪       Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of job-related experience

▪       Working in an international school setting and familiarity with the American educational system
▪       Working successfully with an ethnically diverse population
▪       Teaching in the subject area and with the age of students assigned
▪       Creating units of work using ‘UbD’ strategies

Teacher Expectations
▪       As a school grounded in the Christian faith, we hire Christian teachers and administrators. ▪       Understanding of employment.
o   Oversee, when appropriate, Teacher Assistants/Paraprofessionals/Support Staff in working with or monitoring children and managing clerical tasks. 
o   On regular school days, all teachers are on duty between 7:45AM and 3:45PM, not inclusive of activities and meetings.
o   Undertake additional duties that may reasonably be assigned or requested by the Supervisor.
o   Concordia reserves the right to reassign a teacher to a teaching duty commensurate with their educational training and experience.  Such a decision will be made by school administrators and be guided by what is in the best educational interest of students and the school as a whole.

Job Specific Expectations will be assigned from the following:
 
CURRICULAR
  • Prepare and direct four to five (4-5) curricular choral ensembles ranging from beginning to advanced levels.  These choirs may include one middle school choir, in addition to three to four (3-4) high school choirs. 
  • Organize and lead choirs in three to four (3-4) high school concerts per year.
  • Assist with three to four (3-4) middle school choir concerts per year.
  • Prepare music ensembles for assemblies and special school events.
  • Collaborate with Middle School Choir Director with regards to planning, room usage and performances.
  • Collaborate with music peers on curriculum planning and overall music program for MS and HS.
  • Collaborate with fine arts peers in department meetings and projects.  
  • Collaborate with marketing department to promote concert performances and special events. 
 
CO-CURRICULAR
  • Prepare and direct two (2) co-curricular choirs, to include one high school acapella choir and one adult choir for high school students, faculty, parents, and community members.
  • Collaborate with Activities Director to host the regional APAC Choral Festival once every six years. 
  • Prepare music with student musicians and travel to annual APAC Choral Festival with 16 students for four (4) nights each school year.
  • Collaborate on the annual high school musical by preparing the vocal music with the student performers.  
  • Prepare students to audition for the annual AMIS Choral Festival, then rehearse with singers who were accepted into the AMIS Choral Festival.
  • Manage travel arrangements and travel with students to the annual AMIS Choral Festival with student singers for four to five (4-5) nights each school year.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor to our high school Tri-M Music Honors Society student chapter.  Assists Tri-M members with their annual auditioned, talent-show, fundraiser.  
 
OTHER
  • Order repertoire and supplies annually. 
  • Organize and manage a large choral music library of over 1700 octavos. 
  • Coordinate the tailoring and purchase of concert attire for string students.
  • Work with one full time accompanist in the high school and part-time accompanist in the middle school.
