Job Description
Located next to Purple Mountain and Xuanwu Lake, Nanjing Forestry University (NJFU) is a key provincial university jointly built by Jiangsu Province, the Ministry of Education and the State Forestry and Grassland Administration. It is also included in national “Double First-Class” Initiative, and A-class Initiative under Jiangsu High-level University Construction Summit Plan.
Aiming at serving the construction of national ecological civilization, NJFU takes Forestry as its distinctive feature and develops coordinately multi- disciplines including science, engineering, agriculture, literature, management, economics, law and arts. NJFU has 21 Colleges, 8 Centers for Postdoctoral Researchers, offering Ph.D. programs in 8 first-class disciplines, master degree programs in 26 first-class disciplines and professional master degree programs in 19 disciplines. There are 1 national “Double First-Class” construction discipline of Forestry Engineering, 6 national key disciplines of Forestry Engineering, Ecology, Forest Genetic Breeding, Forest Chemical Processing Engineering, Wood Science and Technology, and Forest Protection, 13 key disciplines of State Forestry and Grassland Administration. There are also 4 advantaged disciplines and 10 key disciplines at provincial level.
NJFU has basically set Forestry Engineering, Forestry, Landscape Architecture as peak disciplines, and Ecology, Agriculture and Forestry Economic Management, Design, Biology, Mechanical Engineering, Civil engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering as highland disciplines to form an coordinated ecological civilization discipline system featured by Forestry. The university has also built more than 50 innovation platforms at national and provincial level, including “National Key Laboratory of Forest Tree Genetic Breeding”, “National Engineering Research Center for Low Carbon and Efficient Utilization of Forest Biomass”, “National-Provincial Joint Engineering Research Center of Biomass Materials for Packaging of Electromechanical Products”, “Provincial -Ministry Co-operative Innovation Center for Southern Modern Forestry “, and Essential Science Indicators (ESI) ranks 7 disciplines including Engineering, Plant and Animal Science, Agricultural Science, Material Science, Chemistry, Environmental Ecology and Biology and Biochemistry in Global Top 1%.

Position Summary, Required Qualifications and Benefits
I. Positions and qualifications
1. Metasequoia Scholars
Category A: Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, internationally leading scholars and scientists who serve in the world prestigious universities and scientific research institutes, or those who are equivalent to the above-mentioned top scholars.
Category B: Winners from National Key Talents Programs, National Famous Teachers, Grantees of Distinguished Young Scientists Foundation of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Professors of overseas prestigious universities, or those who are equivalent to the above-mentioned leading scholars, generally with the age under 55.
Category C: Grantees of Outstanding Young Scientists Foundation of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Winners from National Key Talents Programs (the Youth), Associate Professors from overseas prestigious universities, or those who are equivalent to the above-mentioned prominent scholars, generally with the age under 45.
Category D: Those who are selected by Provincial Key (Brand) Talents Programs (such as Jiangsu Specially-appointed Professors, Grantees of Distinguished Young Scientists Foundation of Jiangsu Province Natural Science Foundation), Assistant Professors of overseas prestigious universities, or those who are equivalent to the above-mentioned top-notch scholars, generally with the age under 40.
2. Metasequoia Talents
Category E: Applicants should possess Ph.D. degree, and hold a professional position as Professor with the age under 45, or those who are equivalent to professor level after being reviewed and evaluated by peer experts (the age for a professor in Humanities and Social Sciences can be raised to 50). In recent 5 years, the applicants for Metasequoia Talents should also be grantee of National Natural/Social Science Foundation projects as PI, or obtained national scientific research achievement awards/teaching achievement awards of second prize and above (certificate required), or obtained scientific research achievement awards at provincial or ministerial-level (ranking the top 2 for the first prize, or the top 1 for the second prize), or obtained teaching achievement awards at provincial or ministerial-level (ranking the top 2 for the special prize, or top 1 for the first prize). The applicants are required to have published more than 8 professional academic papers in international or national high-level journal as the first author or independently in recent 5 years, among which at least 2 papers have been published in authoritative journals at home and abroad. The number of papers can decrease appropriately for those who have had outstanding achievements in teaching and research or who are mostly-needed professional talents. Overseas talents are not restricted by requirements for project fund or teaching/research award.
Category F:
- Applicants should possess Ph.D. degrees, and hold a professional position as Associate Professor with the age under 40. Applicants should also be grantee of National Natural/Social Science Foundation projects as PI, or obtained national scientific research achievement awards/teaching achievement awards of second prize and above (certificate required), or obtained scientific research achievement awards at provincial or ministerial-level (ranking the top 7 for the first prize, or the top 5 for the second prize, or the top 3 for t he third prize), or obtained teaching achievement awards at provincial or ministerial-level (ranking the top 7 for the special prize, or top 5 for the first prize, or the top 3 for the second prize). Applicants are required to have published more than 5 professional academic papers in international or national high-level journals or at the international conferences as the first author or independently in recent 5 years, among which at least 2 papers have been published in authoritative journals at home and abroad.
- Applicants under age 35 should possess Ph.D. degrees in prestigious universities or institutions or have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in undertaking post-doctoral research. After being reviewed and evaluated by peer experts, applicants should reach Associate Professor level. Applicants are required to have more than 5 professional academic papers published in international and national-level high level journals as the first author or independently in recent 4 years, among which at least 1 paper has been published in the authoritative journals at home and abroad. Applicants with post doctor experience in China should be grantee of national Natural/Social Science Foundation projects as PI, or grantee of provincial/ministerial Foundation projects (at least 2) as PI. The number of papers can decrease appropriately for those who have had outstanding achievements in teaching and research or who are mostly-needed professional talents. Overseas talents are not restricted by requirements for project fund.

II. Compensation and Benefits
1. Metasequoia Scholars
The Metasequoia Scholars will enjoy the annual salary system (by mutual agreement, pre-tax salary), and all round supports in a relocation allowance, house-purchasing subsidies, start-up funds for scientific research, laboratories and office(s), transition apartment , enrolment quotas for graduates and post-doctoral programs.
Category A: The annual salary has lower limit of 1.1 million yuan, with a generous relocation allowance and startup funds for scientific research. According to the strategic development plan of the disciplines, the university will provide each Metasequoia scholar with good working conditions and living welfare, and will fully guarantee that every Metasequoia scholar has a comfortable working environment and a happy life on campus. The specific requirements and welfare package will be negotiated case by case.
Category B: The annual salary has lower limit of 900 thousand yuan, with a relocation allowance of 300 thousand yuan, and house-purchasing subsidies of 1.5 to 2.5 million yuan. The university will also provide startup funds of scientific research for a Natural Science scholar with 3 to 5 million yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science scholar with 1 to 2 million yuan. In addition to necessary working conditions for scientific research and office, the University will provide a research assistant(s) according to the actual needs of each scholar.
Category C: The annual salary has lower limit of 700 thousand yuan, with a relocation allowance of 200 thousand yuan, and house-purchasing subsidies of 1 to 1.6 million yuan. The university will provide initiative funds of scientific research for a Natural Science scholar with 1 to 2 million yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science scholar with 500 thousand to 1 million yuan. The university will also provide necessary conditions for scientific research and office(s) for each scholar.
Category D: The annual salary has lower limit of 350 thousand yuan, with a relocation allowance of 200 thousand yuan, and house-purchasing subsidies of 700 thousand to 1 million yuan . The university will provide startup funds of scientific research, for a Natural Science scholar with 800 thousand to 1 million yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science scholar with 400 to 500 thousand yuan. The university will also provide necessary conditions for scientific research and office(s) for each scholar.
2. Metasequoia Talents
In the duration of employment, Metasequoia Talents will enjoy the salary, welfare package and living conditions commensurate to their positions, according to the relevant national provisions. The university will also offer all round support for Metasequoia Talents with an appropriate relocation allowance, house-purchasing subsidies, startup funds for scientific research and transition apartment as well.
Category E: The university will provide each Metasequoia Talent with a relocation of 100 thousand yuan, and house-purchasing subsidies of 600 thousand to 1 million yuan, startup funds of scientific research for a Natural Science talent with 400 to 500 thousand yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science talent with 200 to 300 thousand yuan. The university will also assist to manage all issues relating to spouse’s work of each Metasequoia Talent and schooling for any accompanying child or children.
Category F: The university will provide each Metasequoia Talent with a relocation of 100 thousand yuan, and house-purchasing subsidies of 300-600 thousand yuan, startup funds of scientific research for a Natural Science talent with 200 to 300 thousand yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science talent with 100 to 150 thousand yuan.
3. General Faculty
The university will provide house-purchasing subsidies of 300 thousand maximum, startup funds of scientific research for a Natural Science lecturer with 150 thousand yuan maximum and for a Humanities & Social Science lecturer with 100 thousand yuan maximum.
4. Full-time Foreign Talents
Full time foreign talents applying for the corresponding Categories of Metasequoia Scholars and Metasequoia Talents, will be employed according to the employment system, and they will enjoy the annual salary system (including the personal payouts of social insurances in medical insurance, work injury, pension, maternity, unemployment, but excluding spouse and child/children’s insurance). According to the length of the employment period, the university will provide the corresponding annual salary and research startup funds. The specific requirements and welfare package are negotiable.
