Job Description
Applications are invited for appointment as Non-Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 516219), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Applicants should possess (i) a Ph.D. degree in microbiology or virology disciplines; (ii) demonstrated capability and track record in studying the antiviral peptides, antiviral defective interfering genes and viral pathogenesis; (iii) experience and expertise in the identification of viral target or host target broad-spectrum antivirals for human respiratory viral infection; (iv) substantial work experience in BSL-3 facilities on emerging viruses including coronaviruses, influenza viruses, rhinovirus, and parainfluenza virus; (v) experience in animal models for human coronavirus, influenza virus and parainfluenza virus; (vi) experience in viral protein expression in mammalian cells and peptide-protein binding analysis; and (vii) a strong track record of high-quality research as indicated by publication records.
The appointee is expected to work independently as well as with other team members in the Department; manage on-going research projects on emerging infectious diseases; and consistently publish original research articles in high-impact journals and obtain external competitive grants. He/She will also participate in teaching and contribute to the enhancement of medical and healthcare-related courses.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
