Job Description


Optic Valley International School (OVIS)opens its doors to pupils in January 2023. It will provide an overseas curriculum to many foreign passport holders within the Optic Valley area of Wuhan. Housing up to 300 pupils from kindergarten to year 13, class sizes of no more than 24 and a wide variety of international teachers from many countries Optic Valley International School aims to provide a diverse curriculum to all its pupils. The main focal language of all subject teaching will be in English with only language lessons taking place in Chinese.


With a 3,500-year-long history, Wuhan is one of the most ancient and civilized metropolitan cities in China. As the capital city of Hubei Province, Wuhan lies in central China on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Wuhan is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads, and expressways passing through the city and connecting to other major cities. It is also recognized as the political, economic, financial, cultural, educational, and transportation center of central China.


The Primary Homeroom Teacher will work to prepare and maintain the classroom environment that facilitates a holistic growth for students. The homeroom teacher will be responsible for the planning, teaching, and learning within the year groups, be accountable for high standards within classroom, be collaboratively active cross department, and ensure continuously improving throughout the curriculum.

• Ensure continuity with the Primary curriculum and inderdiscipline approaches in daily teaching

• To maximise opportunities to develop and enhance the curriculum by designing and implementing activities inside and outside classroom, e.g. visiting speakers, undertaking field trips etc… 

• Foster an atomosphere in your class and with parents that shows commitment to the well-being and growth to each student, socially and academically;

• To be responsible to all pastroal needs of pupils.


• At least a Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area

• A recognized teaching qualification (eg. B.Ed., M.Ed., iPGCE, QTS/iQTS), NQTs (Newly Qualified Teachers) are welcomed to apply;

• Two years Full-time Classroom teaching Experience in mainstream education sector is preferred;

• IB PYP/IPC curriculum teaching experience is a plus, ideally with an international educational setting;

• Strong sense of responsibily and pastoral care for students;

• Willingness to actively engage in the academic enrichment and extra-curricular acitivies

• Be collaborative and effectively work as a team

• Be committed to maintaining and improving the high standards of teaching and learning.
