Job Description

The program of Media and Communication Studies (MCOM) at UIC invites applications from student-centered scholar-practitioners broadly trained in one or more of the following fields:

1) journalism; 

2) digital media; and 

3) media literacy. 

We welcome candidates with relevant work experience and research interests in digital and multimedia production. There are opportunities to develop innovative pedagogy and collaborative research.

Job Requirement 

All applicants should hold a PhD degree in Media and Communications with a commensurable research profile focusing on media studies. Other requirements include a firm commitment to teaching and tutoring students as well as engaging in theory-based qualitative or quantitative research. Teaching responsibilities of 2-3 courses per semester may include courses related to media theory, media literacy, digital media, international media, and others of the applicant’s own interests. Research experience in political economy of media, media literacy, and digital/new media-related areas will be an added asset. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable ability to undertake independent research leading to outcomes with a strong impact, such as publication in high quality, internationally recognized, indexed journals and scholarly presses. Academic rank will be determined in accordance with successful candidate’s experience and accomplishments.

Appointment Terms

Appointment to this position will initially be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Continuation of appointment beyond the initial term will be subject to mutual agreement.
