It was renamed the Department of Urban Construction Engineering in 1979, the School of Urban Construction in 1994, and the School of Urban Construction and Environmental Engineering in 2000. The School of Resources and Environment at Chongqing University originated from the Department of Mining in 1935 and was renamed the School of Resources and Environmental Science in 2000. In 2019, Chongqing University integrated the environmental science and engineering, ecology, and municipal engineering disciplines from the former School of Urban Construction and Environmental Engineering and the former School of Resources and Environmental Science to form the College of Environment and Ecology. The School started admitting students in Water Supply and Drainage Engineering in 1955, Environmental Engineering in 1985, Environmental Science in 1986, and Environmental Ecological Engineering in 2013, making it one of the first institutions in China to establish majors in Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, and Environmental Ecological Engineering.
The Environmental Science and Engineering discipline of the college is a “Double First-Class” key construction discipline, with Environmental Science/Ecology ranking among the top 1% globally in ESI (Essential Science Indicators). The college currently has two doctoral programs and post-doctoral stations in Environmental Science and Engineering and Ecology, along with four undergraduate majors in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Water Supply and Drainage Engineering, and Environmental Ecology, providing a complete system for bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and post-doctoral education. The college boasts a strong faculty with 94 full-time teachers, including 29 professors and 46 associate professors, with over 86% of the faculty holding doctoral degrees.
