Job Description

Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in Climate Resilience and Climate Responsive Design in the Division of Landscape Architecture (DLA) in the Faculty of Architecture (Ref.: 520604), to commence as soon as possible, on a one-year temporary basis.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree by research (Ph.D., D.Sc., Dr.P.H. or equivalent) in landscape, architecture, geography, atmospheric science and environmental science or a related field.  They should also have demonstrated expertise in urban climate and heatwave-related analysis and a strong quantitative background.  Those who have experience in computer simulation at urban and microclimate scales, field measurements, and campaigns, and GIS data analysis to inform the development and optimal deployment of technologies and strategies for cooling neighborhoods and cities are highly preferred.  Applicants with relevant post-doctoral work experience and an excellent publication and teaching track record may also be considered.

The appointee will contribute to climate resilience research in the Division, including evaluating climate change related risk and developing adaptation strategies and climate resilience design actions.  He/She is required to be on instrument sites to gather and analyze weather data and explore factors explaining the spatial and temporal variation of key parameters; conduct independent research on urban geo-spatial analysis, including proficiencies with GIS software packages and artificial intelligence, including machine learning, image processing, text-mining, etc.; develop environmental performance simulations applied at either the neighborhood and city scales; and develop research reports, presentations, and publications.  He/She will also be expected to teach elective courses and supervise MSc (SED) students at the DLA.
