Script Editor, CGTN Documentary

*This position is based in Beijing and only open to foreign passport holders*

Location: Beijing, China

Full-time: 12 months (can be extended based on performance)

AIMS OF THE JOB

● To ensure that commissioned scripts are of the required standard, and are available for use at the appropriate time.

● To provide editorial and research support to the script team.

● To advise on all script related matters associated with the production.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

● Ensure that draft scripts are checked for inaccuracies and to advise Assistant Editor accordingly.

● Pitch story ideas and write description and script, work with video editor to make a video.

Alert Assistant Editor to any difficulties or inconsistencies in the scripts and to suggest solutions.

● Looking out for potential editorial/coverage problems and discuss them with the producers;

● To provide additional research when required.

To help generate material for the website.

To train junior Chinese colleagues for free when necessary.

Complete other tasks assigned by superiors.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

● A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or English preferred.

Native speaker of English.

● A demonstrable interest in documentaries and creative writing.

Practical experience of script editing and training of journalism and news writing.

● Solid experience in the new media platform.

● A broadly based knowledge and a familiarity with Chinese culture.

● Ability to demonstrate sound editorial judgement and sensitivity; experience as a narrator or dubbing director is preferred.

● An understanding of and the ability to interpret editorial intentions, and to contribute to the generation of ideas and the resolution of script problems.

● Experience of handling controversial information with tact and sensitivity.

● Familiarity with office and information technology.
