The Secondary Teacher:
1) Promotes the SWIS Mission, Vision and Values.
2) Enables students to learn effectively and to provide support for the academic and pastoral needs of the students while modeling the IB philosophy.
Teaching and Learning
1) Plan, teach and review the subject curriculum according to IB MYP/DP standards.
2) Differentiate classroom instruction to meet student’s individual learning needs and styles.
3) Explicitly teach Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
4) Employ a constructivist, inquiry-based pedagogical approach to teaching and learning that promotes inquiry and the development of critical-thinking skills.
5) Provide learning experiences that build on what students know and can do.
6) Support the development of international-mindedness and all attributes of the IB learner profile within the curriculum.
7) Employ a range of teaching and learning strategies to promote independent thinking, inquiry and acquisition of subject specific knowledge and skills.
8) Promote and foster student reflection on learning experiences.
9) Foster a stimulating learning environment based on understanding and respect.
10) Empower students to take self-initiated action as a result of the learning.
11) Serve as a pastoral advisor.
Collaborative Planning
1) Collaboratively develop MYP/DP units with the Subject team.
2) Collaboratively develop MYP/DP interdisciplinary units.
3) Attend and contribute to weekly collaborative planning meetings.
4) Work collaboratively with Subject Leads and the IB MYP/DP Coordinators to develop and document teaching and learning experiences using the Managebac platform.
Communication
1) Demonstrate open communication based on understanding and respect.
2) Develop and maintain clear lines of communication with colleagues, parents and the wider school community.
3) Communicate curriculum information with parents via Managebac and the Student Planner.
4) Use professional email etiquette when communicating with colleagues, parents and Administrators.
Job Requirements
1) Minimum Bachelor’s degree.
2) A valid teaching certificate.
3) Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in International schools.
4) Demonstrated knowledge of IB curriculum and the needs of students.
5) Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
6) Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
