Job Description

Nankai University is a famous university in China. It was initiated in 1904 and was founded in 1919 by two prestigious educators Yan Xiu and Zhang Boling on the idea of saving the nation through education. Nankai University adheres to the motto of “dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-around capability, and aspiration for progress with each passing day.” It carries forward the tradition of “patriotism, devotion, innovation, and cooperation”, as well as the concept of “governing the country via liberal arts, strengthening the country via science, and enriching the country via commerce.” It aims at knowing China and serving China. Nankai University takes Zhou Enlai, an outstanding alumnus, as a model to cultivate talents, prosper academia, strengthen the country, inherit civilization, and strive to build a world-class university.

In October 1997, The College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University grew out of the English Department that was established in 1919. During the War of Resistance, the English Department, together with the Departments of Foreign Languages of Tsinghua University and Peking University, formed the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature of Southwestern Associated University. In the last hundred years, a large number of outstanding scholars have emerged in the college, who have cultivated for the country a great many foreign language talents with good reputation and recognition both at home and abroad. The College of Foreign Languages adheres to the talent training concept of “foreign language expertise, humanistic literacy, international vision, Chinese affection, and Nankai characteristics”, and the goal of cultivating “practitioners of foreign affairs, researchers of international issues, advocates for communication of civilizations, and providers of language services” for the country.

The College currently has ten departments teaching nine languages in ten academic disciplines. It also includes one College English Center, and seven research centers (for Linguistics, Foreign Literatures, Translation Studies, International Transmission of Chinese Culture, Foreign Language Education and Teachers’ Development, National and Regional Studies, and East Asia Cultural Studies). It has first level discipline authorized to grant doctorate degree and the key discipline in Tianjin.

In order to further develop The College of Foreign Languages as a first-rate college of a first-class university, we are now recruiting talents both at home and abroad.

(1) Academic Titles and Ages: Professor (under 50 years old in principle), Associate Professor (under 45 years old). Talents of both two ranks should in general obtain their doctorates, with standards of academic achievements no lower than the equivalence of Nankai University for promotion of the titles and ranks. Please see “Provisions on the professional conditions for the evaluation and employment of senior professional and technical posts of teachers in Nankai University”.

(2) Majors: English, Translation, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic.

(3) Research fields: Foreign Linguistics, Foreign Literatures, Translation Studies, Comparative Literature and Cross-cultural Studies, National and Regional Studies, Sino-foreign Cultural Exchange.
